Prestatyn Town legend Neil Gibson lands prestigious award

Almost one year on from being appointed manager of Altrincham, manager Neil Gibson has landed a prestigious award.
Alty’s outstanding recent form has been officially recognised after Gibson was named Enterprise National League Manager of the Month for September.
The former Prestatyn Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads manager was voted the National League’s top boss after seeing off competition from three other nominees to win the coveted prize.
Gibson, 47, led his in-form side into the play-off places with a return of five wins and one defeat during September. After beating Aldershot 3-1 at home on Saturday, The Robins lie sixth in the Tier 5 table.
With typical modesty, Gibbo was keen to stress the part his assistant Lee Jones, Kyle Taylor as head of performance, Thomas Cadman head of medical and Andy Firth doubling up as goalkeeper and keeper coach have played in the success – as well as the players.
Three successive defeats at the start of the campaign soon seemed a distant memory as Alty embarked on a spectacular upturn in form and fortunes with a 2-1 home win over FC Halifax Town on August 28.
A 2-1 triumph at Forest Green Rovers followed three days later, and then it was into the golden month of September, in which a setback at Woking was the only blemish as the Robins reeled off wins over Eastleigh, Hartlepool United, AFC Fylde, Hornchurch and Gateshead to put the boss in pole position for an honour that duly came his way.
Prestatyn man Gibson was previously manager of National League Wealdstone, taking over in January 2025 and saving the club from the drop, but he, along with assistant Lee Jones, left the London Borough outfit in May 2025 by mutual consent.
In October 2025, Gibson and Jones took over at Altrincham, initially on an interim basis.
After picking up 10 points from their opening four games, the pair’s appointment became permanent, securing them a contract through the end of the 2026-27 season.
When the duo first landed at Moss Lane, the Robins were placed 20th out of 24 clubs, but ended the 2025-26 campaign in a much-improved 13th position.

Back in his Welsh pyramid days, Gibson lifted the Welsh Cup as boss of both Prestatyn Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads. A former Tranmere Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and Rhyl FC player, he was also capped 12 times for Wales Under-21s.
Gibson and Lee Jones departed Nomads in August 2024 three months after leading them to victory over The New Saints in the Welsh Cup Final.
Now the partnership have added to their stock by doing solid jobs at two English pyramid Tier 5 clubs.
