Hard to understand why “Pixie” has been shown door at Druids

When Cefn Druids announced the departure of head coach Bruno Lopes yesterday, one of the first names spoken of as a potential replacement was the first team coach at The Rock, David ‘Pixie’ Taylor.

Therefore, it was quite a surprise today when Druids revealed it had parted company with Taylor as well.

In a short statement, the Cymru Premier club said: “The club would like to express their thanks and gratitude to “Pixie” and wish him well for the future.

“The club will be making no further statement at this time.”

Grassroots North Wales would have thought a man like Pixie would be the perfect fit for Druids at this time.

Experienced, personable, local, just the type of man to steady the rocky ship of a team propping up the Cymru Premier.

No doubt Druids current caretaker head coach Jayson Starkey is capable of doing a job, he is highly spoken of on the Welsh football scene, but the loss of Pixie makes no sense. If he was not to become the next head coach, then surely a man of his background had a vital role to play in the future at Cefn.

Before he turned to coaching, his experience including a stint of the most successful Wrexham Ladies side to play in the Welsh Premier, Pixie attained legendary status as a player.

He is best known for his spell at Porthmadog, where he won the European Golden Shoe in 1993/4 after firing 43 league goals for the Traeth club.

In all, he scored 118 Welsh Premier goals in 225 appearances, his other clubs being Conwy United, Inter Cardiff, Newtown, Holywell Town, Welshpool Town, Cefn Druids, Oswestry Town and Caersws.

Hopefully, he will soon find a suitable position in Welsh football. All the best Pixie.
