Happy birthday to Caernarfon Town coach Dave Taylor – 56 today.

Affectionately known as Pixie, the man perhaps most renowned for winning the European Golden Shoe as a Porthmadog player in 1993-94 was born on August 25, 1965.

Taylor, who hails from the Wrexham area, joined Caernarfon’s staff four months ago.

He moved to The Oval after departing Cefn Druids following the best part of a decade on their management team.

Pixie previously worked with current Caernarfon boss Huw Griffiths at The Rock.

Taylor is an ‘A Licence’ holder and is probably best known for winning the European Golden Shoe after netting 43 goals for Porthmadog during the 1993/94 season.

In all, he scored 118 Welsh Premier goals in 225 appearances, his other clubs being Conwy United, Inter Cardiff, Newtown, Holywell Town, Welshpool Town, Cefn Druids, Oswestry Town and Caersws.

Following his record-breaking 1993-94 season, he moved to Inter Cardiff and featured in their Uefa Cup campaign against GKS Katowice of Poland.

After his football career ended, Taylor joined Caersws as assistant to then manager Mike Barton in 2007, following the departure of club legend Mickey Evans.

He then took the helm for a season, before resuming his assistant’s role when Evans returned to the Recreation Ground hot seat.

Taylor then began a long spell as assistant and first team coach at Druids.

Dave also formerly managed the Wrexham Ladies football team, where his daughter Steph was a key defender.

After winning the Welsh Premier Northern Conference in 2011-12, Pixie was also in charge when Wrexham were part of the first fully-national Welsh Premier Women’s League in 2012-13.

The Dragons finished third, the best position achieved by a North Wales team in the league’s history so far.

Happy birthday Pixie – all the very best to a Welsh Premier legend.
