My North Wales women’s dream team: Carol Lewis (Amlwch Town)

Amlwch Town’s inspirational captain Carol Lewis today chooses her North Wales Dream Team.

This is the 23rd XI selected in the series.

Defender and North Wales Division Two title-winning skipper Carol follows previous ‘managers’ Ceryl Jones, Paige Williams (Amlwch), Tegan Hewitt, Alaw Davies-Smith, Nia Wyn Ellis, Annmarie Jones, Fflur Williams, Chelsea Evans, Abby Williams, Gwenno Gibbard Bolton, Lexi Crawley, Claire Colville, Cerys Gadd, Libby McClelland, Meinir Thomas, Erica Jones, Rachel Roberts, Beca Williams, Mari Gibbard, Emily Jones, Cara Wyn Hughes and Catrin Wyn Thomas.

CAROL’S COMMANDERS (4-3-3)

GOALKEEPER

Nicky Davies

Wales’ No 1 for so many years, winning 64 caps and playing at the top level of the women’s game for Liverpool – that’s why she’s my goalkeeper without question.
She has also been a brilliant Ynys Môn team-mate at the Island Games, especially the last one when we made the final.

DEFENDERS

Left-back – Sioned Bohana

She would be an ideal defensive partner for me. Always gives 100%, strong in the tackle and a great left foot.
When Caernarfon Town have been on top form in recent years, Sioned has been involved.

Centre-back – Lowri Hughes

Great defender for Pwllheli, but she gives you the added bonus of scoring plenty of goals.
Always a danger at set pieces and has good pace too.

Centre-back – Laura Eynon

A great captain of Ynys Môn and a brilliant defender to play alongside at Amlwch.
Tremendous attitude to the game and a really good all-round defender.

Right-back – Jordanne Greenough

Did really well for us at the Island Games.
Versatile in that she can defend and attack, using her pace down the right.
Currently with Bethel, but has played in the Welsh Premier for Caernarfon Town and Llandudno. One of the best in North Wales over a good few years.

MIDFIELDERS

Left-midfield – Catrin Evans

Since she joined Amlwch Town we’ve become an even better attacking team.
Her speed down the left is electric and she gets plenty of goals.
Still only 18, a bright future lies ahead for Catrin.

Central-defensive midfield – Katie Davies (formerly Williams)

Won 20 caps for Wales, played at the top level for Liverpool and has been involved with some great Bangor City and Caernarfon Town sides.
Best in North Wales at what she does.

Central-midfield – Ffion Owen

Joined us at Amlwch last season and what a player she has proved to be.
A true goalscoring midfielder, we loved having her as part of the Ynys Môn squad at the Inter-Island Games in 2019.
Has played Welsh Premier and is good enough to return there any time. Quiet off the pitch, but makes big statements on it.

Central-midfield – Cerys Gadd

Dream pairing with Ffion in the midfield.
Cerys started out mainly as a defender, but she is so effective now breaking from midfield and scoring goals.
A great inspiration to the younger players; doesn’t want the limelight, wants others to enjoy it.

Right-midfield – Ceri Slaney

Another quiet player who does her talking on the pitch.
Formerly with Caernarfon Town and Llandudno in the Welsh Premier, Ceri has been a great asset to Amlwch with her play down the right.

FORWARDS

Striker – Lexi Crawley

The best natural striker in the North Wales League.
She scores so many goals, always seems to be in the right place at the right time and uses her pace and skills to good effect.
