My North Wales women’s football dream team: Libby McClelland (NFA)
NFA midfielder Libby McClelland is the latest to choose her All-Time North Wales Women’s Dream Team XI.
This is number six in what is proving to be a very popular series.
Abby Williams (Airbus), Gwenno Gibbard Bolton (Bethel), Lexi Crawley (Amlwch Town), Claire Colville (Llandudno) and Cerys Gadd (Amlwch Town) have previously selected their XI’s.
GOALKEEPER
Yasmin Mills
Fellow team-mate and I would say one of the best goalkeepers in the North Wales League. I’ve seen her make some world class saves. Quality shot stopper.
DEFENCE
Llinos Hughes
Such a young player but solid in the back line. I believe more to come from Lily, who also plays for NFA.
Erica Jones
Quality player, not afraid to get stuck into challenges. Lots of experience over the years with Pwllheli and Caernarfon Town. Inspirational figure.
Jemila Bukari
Best female defender I’ve seen play. Not so much when you are playing against her. Class act with Llandudno over many years.
MIDFIELD
Mary Griffiths
Llanfair United star. She just doesn’t stop, she’s all over the place. Very fast and skilful player.
Lexie Smith
Have played against Lexie a few times, strong in the air. Picks a pass out from pretty much anywhere.
Rachel Lloyd
Current partner in midfield at NFA. I’ve grown up watching Lloydy play and didn’t think for one minute I would be playing alongside her. She’s a real team player and can score via a free kick from pretty much anywhere on the pitch. Wales player, ex-Rhyl in Welsh Premier, won Welsh Cup with Prestatyn U-16’s.
Abby Williams
Commanding midfielder for Airbus, would say the classic all-round centre mid. Enjoyed our battles in the games played against Abby.
Shannon Hobbs
Another great player I’ve had the chance to play alongside. Again skilful, pacy and scores some wonder goals. Was with Connah’s Quay Nomads last year; ex-Rhyl in Welsh Premier, also Prestatyn.
STRIKERS
Laura Pennington
Played against her whilst she played for Northop Hall. Always guaranteed to score, out and out centre forward.
Hollie Groves
Certainly knows where the goal is as I’m sure her stats will tell you. Strong, pacy striker who once scored nine in a single game for Denbigh Town. Would be great to see her back in North Wales football.
