Prestatyn Town make biggest signing yet in ex-Football League full-back Buxton

Prestatyn Town have announced their biggest signing yet since John Lawless took over as first-team manager last month.

Full-back Adam Buxton, 28, has joined the Seasiders from Football League Two club Morecambe.

Buxton brings a wealth of experience and quality to Bastion Gardens having featured in more than 100 EFL games.

Liverpool-born Buxton began his career at Wigan in 2010 when the Latics were in the Premier League.

He experienced his first taste of first-team football as an unused substitute for an FA Cup tie against Hull City on 8 January 2011.

Buxton spent the rest of the season playing for the Wigan reserve team, and went on to captain the development squad throughout the 2011–12 and 2012–13 seasons.

He broke back into the first-team set-up at the beginning of 2013–14, travelling with the senior Wigan side on their pre-season tour of the United States, and featuring in several pre-season friendlies.

However, once the newly-relegated side’s season had started, Buxton found himself unable to make his way into first-team plans.

On 3 January, 2014, League Two side Burton Albion took Buxton on loan from Wigan for one month. He made his professional debut on 14 January 2014 in a 4–1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Buxton made no further appearances for Burton, and was recalled by Wigan on 1 February 2014, at the completion of the initial one-month loan.

He soon moved to Accrington Stanley on loan, a deal which was later made permanent and he spent three years at the club, making 61 first team appearances.

Fitting in a short stay at Portsmouth, between 2017-2019 he played 67 games for Tranmere Rovers and scored three goals in the National League and the EFL League 2 before a brief spell at York.

On June 29, 2019, Buxton signed a one-year deal for Morecambe. He played in 15 matches for the club before being released in June 2020.

Prestatyn manager Lawless said: “I’m delighted Adam has decided to sign, he’s a player I rate really highly.

His career so far speaks for itself. He’s a great passer of the ball who will fit right in with the style of play that we want.”
