Prestatyn Town have signed defender Sam Barnes from Aberystwyth.

The 29-year-old joins the Seasiders after stints with several clubs.

A former Liverpool schoolboys player, he first played for the Stockport County Under 18 team while still at school. His twin brother Louis Barnes was also part of the U-18’s and was, along with Sam, given a squad number for the first team in the 2009/10 season.

In August 2010 both Barnes twins went on trial at Manchester United and played for the club’s reserve team in a pre-season 2–0 win over Altrincham.

They were released shortly afterwards after they failed to agree new contracts at Stockport.

In January 2011, Sam joined Northwich Victoria then a month later switched to Marine.

After 43 appearances for the club, in June 2012 he went on to join division rivals Hednesford Town, who he helped earn promotion to the Conference North in 2012-13.

Following a spell with Witton Albion, Barnes was at Colwyn Bay between 2015-18, moved on to Bangor City, then signed up for Welsh Premier Newtown in January 2019.

His last club was Aberystwyth Town, where he landed in June 2020.
