North Wales Ladies Recreational Football League season is officially over

Llanfairfechan Town Ladies had a good debut season

The first season of the North Wales Ladies Recreational Football League is officially over.

Due to the coronavirus crisis no further games will be possible in 2019-20.

The last match to be played was Llanfairfechan’s 3-0 win over Mochdre Lionesses on March 8. That result put Llanfair top of Group West.

In Group East, Kinmel Bay led the standings with a perfect record of four straight victories.

No trophies will be awarded.

A league spokesman said: “No champions will be named as the groups were just a way to rank them into a competition in which each team would find a level of competition that suited them.”

The league ran smoothly for the most part, although there were some disputes over the level of players a few teams fielded.

With the league non-affiliated and there being no set of definite rules, it was unclear from the start what exactly the term ‘recreational’ entailed.

When the current COVID-19 pandemic is over and football can start again, no doubt planning will be required on where the league goes from here.

It is hoped it can continue as there is no doubt it has benefited women’s football in North Wales.

Next season, the North Wales Women’s League is expected to split into North East Wales FA and North Wales Coast FA divisions before the female football pyramid undergoes major changes in 2021-22.

It remains to be seen if the Recreational League terms will have any involvement, or whether they will continue as they are.
