Rhyl FC is coming back as…..Rhyl FC!
Last month Rhyl Football Club Belle Vue Limited was liquidated.
It brought to an end a 141-year football history in the town which delivered four Welsh Cups, three Cheshire County League titles, two Welsh Premier championships and European football.
Rhyl Fans Association were determined to ensure football in the resort would never die.
Having already raised thousands of pounds for the cause, they also ran an online poll for supporters offering three options for a name for a phoenix club.
And the unanimous choice was Rhyl FC. This is perfectly acceptable as the former club was known as Rhyl Football Club Belle Vue Limited.
It is hoped the new club can now establish what ground they will play at in the 2020-21 season.
The current Belle Vue stadium, where the former Rhyl FC had played since 1900, is owned by local businessman David Butters, who has remained reluctant to sell the ground despite constantly being offered above the market value by ex-club officials.
Talks are in the air over a potential new ground share arrangement for next season. The new club does have a preferred option.
Tom Jamieson is interim chairman for the new club, working closely with Adam Roche and the Rhyl Fans Association.
Membership of RFA is £5 for the 2020-21 season. More details on the Twitter account @FansRhyl
