Young football stars transfer success to the rugby field

Two girls well known for their football successes have excelled in the world of rugby union this season.
Efa Williams and Heledd Evans were both award winners in Bangor University women’s rugby team’s 2019-20 roll of honour.
Heledd, 21, won Back of the Season.

In their awards notes, the Uni coaching staff, led by RGC prop Joe Simpson, said: “Heledd started playing for us this season, and what an impact she has had.
“A utility player across the backs, she never fails to amaze.
“Her blindingly quick runs and clever plays have racked up plenty of points for us this season and her team spirit has made her a key member of our team.”
Player’s Player was the award given to scrum-half Efa.

“A new player to our team this year, Efa has certainly proven her worth,” said Joe.
“Starting every game for us this season and scoring more points than anyone else on the team, she has shown her class and we are excited for two more years of her skills on the team.”
Efa also plays club rugby for Caernarfon and Bangor.
As for football, Heledd is a defender with Mountain Rangers.
She first made her mark as part of the 2013-14 Caernarfon Town Under-16 Girls quadruple-winning team which lifted the Welsh Cup.
Heledd, who is training to be a nurse, then joined the Caernarfon Town seniors and in 2016-17 picked up medals for winning the North Wales Women’s League title and the Betty Pickering Cup.

Efa was also part of that Caernarfon Town squad in 2016-17, getting her chance along with fellow youngster Alishia Donohue to shine for the senior side.
And both girls also featured in that aforementioned Betty Pickering Cup Final 5-1 success against Pwllheli, Alishia scoring twice and Efa once.
A full list of Bangor University women’s rugby team award winners for the 2019-20 season will follow soon, as well as an overview on the campaign from the coaches.
