Anglesey-based Wales rugby international Molly Kelly has signed for the mighty Sale Sharks.
Kelly, 19, from Rhosneigr, started her rugby at Caernarfon RFC and represented RGC, West Wales at age grade level and Wales Women emerging before earning a full Welsh cap.
Moving over the border to Liverpool in 2018 for a 12-month spell with Firwood Waterloo Ladies in the Tyrrells Premier 15s league, the young hooker was selected for the 2019 Six Nations squad and gained valuable experience to take back to club level.
Molly’s first call up to an international fixture was against Scotland away in November 2019 where she made her debut in the famous red of Wales.
She went on to appear twice more in 2019 and was selected again for the 2020 Six Nations Championship, gaining caps against Ireland, France and England.
Upon signing for Sale Sharks Women, Molly said: “I’m looking forward to getting involved in the high performance set up the Sharks have implemented.
“With the professional facilities and the clear ambition to become a force in the Tyrrells Premier 15s, this is going to be an exciting time to be involved with Sale Sharks Women.
“I look forward to developing my game with the Sharks and pushing myself forward for more international caps with Wales – but firstly I’m focused on working hard to be ready for the new season.”
Sale Head of Women’s Rugby Darren Lamon said: “It’s great news that we can announce Molly Kelly will be joining the club.
“Molly’s been capped at international level and has a wealth of experience in the Premiership from her time at Waterloo. She’s going to add real quality in the front row and she will make an immediate impact, but she also has great potential that we want to develop further.
“We know Molly has a lot of things she wants to achieve and fulfill in her career, and we feel that Sale Sharks can offer her the opportunity to really maximise her talents and fulfill those goals.”
Molly is also an outstanding footballer and used to play for Prestatyn in the North Wales Women’s League.
