Cymru North: Leaders Prestatyn win at Llangefni, Colwyn Bay up to second

Leaders Prestatyn Town edged ever nearer the Cymru North title as they moved 18 points clear with a 3-0 victory at Llangefni on Friday night.

The Seasiders made it 13 matches unbeaten in all competitions and 10 without defeat in the league after completing a double over their struggling Anglesey opponents.

Neil Gibson’s men now need just nine points from their final six matches to be certain of a third championship success in their history at tier-two level.

Prestatyn struck early at Lon Talwrn when midweek Welsh Cup hero Jack Kenny was brought down in the box and Jordan Davies converted from the spot for his 17th goal of the season.

Zebb Edwards also headed against the post in a first half where the tackles were flying in and the yellow cards flowed as the hosts’ frustration grew.

The game was not won, but three minutes into the second half the points were heading to Denbighshire when Zebb Edwards blasted home from the edge of the penalty area.

And the contest was sewn up in the 76th minute when Danny Davies’ delivery was fumbled into the net by the Cefni keeper.

Two first half goals from Toby Jones earned Bay the victory which nudged them into second spot in the Cymru North.

The Seagulls hit the top of the bar early before Andy Coughlin produced a great stop at the other end.

Bay threatened on a couple more occasions before in the 22nd minute Toby Jones broke clear inside the area to fire past the keeper and put the hosts 1-0 up.

Five minutes before the break Jones doubled the lead following a smart Mitch Bryant assist.

Jones was denied a hat-trick when his effort was cleared off the line prior to the interval.

Things got worse for Corwen eight minutes into the second half when Dale Davies was red carded for a foul on Will Bell.

To their credit, the visitors made a fight of it for the remainder of the contest, Sam Henry twice testing Coughlin.

For the hosts, Callum Parry, Sion Edwards and Cai Owen all went close to a third.
