Prestatyn Town will appeal against Tier 2 licence rejection

Prestatyn Town have failed in their first attempt to retain the licence needed to compete in the Cymru North next season – but confirm they will appeal against the rejection.

The three-time Cymru Alliance/North champions had a difficult 2021-22 season under a brand new management team and group of players, but managed to avoid relegation.

Today the Seasiders discovered their application for a Tier 2 licence had been turned down by the FAW.

The decision is believed to centre around the appointment of a permanent manager.

Chairman Jamie Welsh said: “Prestatyn have reviewed the failure notice of which we believe the two minor issues can be rectified before the appeal hearing.”

An FAW statement said: “The FAW Tier 2 First Instance Body have met to consider the Tier 2 Licensing Applications for the 2022/23 season.

“The Panel assessed 57 applicants for the Tier 2 Certification and clubs were assessed against a number of infrastructure and personnel criteria.

“FAW Tier 2 Licensing is a mandatory requirement for clubs to participate at Tier 2 of the Welsh Football Pyramid for the 2022/23 season.

“Following today’s meeting, the independent First Instance Body decided on the following:

Cefn Albion have confirmed they will appeal.
In a statement on social media, the club said: “Today we have received confirmation from the FAW which confirms that CAFC has been refused the Tier 2 License for the 22/23 season. The refusal reason is minor and we are confident that it will be rectified on appeal.”
