Prestatyn Town call in Corby to help fight FAW licence rejection

Prestatyn Town have recruited a prolific cause fighter for Welsh football clubs in their bid to win the right to play in the Cymru Premier league next season.

The Seasiders are seeking assistance from Ynys Môn based Chris O’Neal to help them secure promotion.

Prestatyn have been refused a Tier 1 certificate needed to compete in the top flight by the Football Association of Wales.

Town are just one win away from lifting the second-tier Cymru North title, but have failed on appeal to earn the mandatory licence required to go up because of issues regarding a TV gantry for showing live games.

The club has been told by the FAW there are no further grounds for appeal, but Prestatyn are fighting on as they believe the licensing application process was unfair.

Popularly known as “Corby”, Mr O’Neal is well known in Welsh footballing circles as the person who in 2017 successfully got the decision by the Welsh Alliance League to expel Prestatyn Sports FC on ground criteria issues overturned.

Last year he challenged the Welsh FA in sports arbitration when they deducted Bangor City 42 points for alleged rule transgressions which left them facing demotion from tier 2. Bangor won their case and remained in Cymru North.

Prestatyn Town have now called on Mr O’Neal to help their quest to overthrow the FAW’s ruling and gain a third promotion in their history to the Cymru Premier.

A club statement said: “Over the past week we have held various discussions and have now compiled a formal letter of complaint addressed to the chief executive of the Welsh Football Association Jonathon Ford.

“An Online Zoom meeting for fans will take place this week commencing May 11 (date and time to be confirmed).

“We will endeavour to give you all 24 hours notice whereby we will take your questions and give you feedback on the application and the appeal.”
