Meet the Player: Joe Evans (CPD Llanuwchllyn)

Please tell us which clubs you have played for
Bala Town, Dolgellau, Chirk and my current club CPD Llanuwchllyn, where I have spent most my playing career.
How do you feel the current season is going for Llanuwchllyn?
I’m really enjoying this season and it’s going well. We have had some really good results but failed to perform against teams we expect to beat, which has been frustrating.
Most goals scored (senior level)…..in a single game? in a season?
I once scored 5 goals in one game during our promotion season to the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier. That season I managed to score 40 goals – this was without doubt my best and most enjoyable season to date.
What do you think this Llanuwchllyn team is capable of achieving?

I really do think that on our day we are capable of beating anyone in the league. A few seasons ago under the guidance of Sion Tudor we were challenging for the league and I strongly believe if we all stick together over the next few seasons and bring a few new faces in, we will be able to go that extra step and win the Premier!
What do you think of the standard of the Welsh National League Premier Division?
I have been playing in the Wrexham Area now for a few seasons and it’s improving every year. There is no longer an easy game where you’re guaranteed 3 points. If you don’t bring your A Game and you’re not at the races you’ll get beat.
What honours have you won in the game?
Over the years I’ve picked up a few individual awards but as a team we gained promotion to the Premier Division and the same year we won the league cup in 2016.
Best game ever played in?
My most enjoyable game was without doubt the Division One League Cup final we played against Cefn Albion back in 2016. We won the game 3-2 and it was a real battle full of drama and excitement till the final whistle. We were second to Cefn in the table that year so beating them in the cup was extra special.
Best team played so far this season?

This is a difficult one, we have played a lot of good teams this season and had a lot of good battles but for me the game that sticks out is when we played Mold Alex at home. They are a very fit, organised and physical side so for me they are the best to date, but saying that we haven’t played the in-form team in the division Holywell Town yet.
Strengths and weaknesses to your game?
Again a difficult question, but if I had to say, I’d say my strengths are I’m very passionate towards the club and always give everything on the pitch. I’m good in the air, very physical and have an eye for goal. My weakness is my right foot and my fitness at times lets me down.
Describe your best ever goal
I’ve scored a few and have a lot of favourite goals but the one that sticks out for me is the one I scored back in 2015 against Llangollen. The weather was awful and we needed to win to have any chance of getting promotion. We were a goal down and I picked the ball up just inside our own half, I seen some space so I took the ball and went round a few players and smashed the ball into the roof of the net from 30 yards – that was my best and most important goal!

Best country visited
Has to be Mexico. Without doubt the nicest place I’ve visited.
Do you follow a particular football team as a fan – Premier League or otherwise? If so, which?
Yes I support Liverpool and I’m looking forward to seeing them lift the Premier League title come end of the season.
If you could bring any old TV programme back, what would it be?
Um I’m not sure really, this is a tough one as I don’t really watch much TV, but If I had to chose I’d probably say Friends.
Have any members of your family achieved anything notable in sport?
No not really, but both my brothers and sister are good in everything they do.
What item of importance to you could you survive without for the least time?
My PS4.
Who’s the funniest character in the dressing room at Llanuwchllyn?

There are a few with good banter and we all get on really well and have a laugh, but our manager Riki Rowlands can give and take good banter.
Are you a regular gym user?
No, not really. The only time I ever went to the gym regularly was a few months before I went on my first lads’ holiday.
Can Wales do big things again at Euro 2020?
I hope so. It’s a tough group but if they can get out of their group who knows. I’d like to see them go all the way and have a fantastic tournament like the one 4 years ago!
Who is your favourite all-time boxer and why?

This is an easy answer, it has to be without doubt Iron Mike Tyson – he was an animal in the ring!
Hopes for the world?
That we stay out of any war and conflict.
