Club celebrates first league win in two-and-a-half seasons!

When you record your first league win in two-and-a-half years you have every right to enjoy a crazy celebration.

And it’s a good bet that popping the champagne corks (or at least opening the Peronis at a rapid rate of knots) was very high on the agenda when Llandegfan’s players, officials and supporters reflected on a memorable 2-1 victory on Saturday night.

After a narrow 1-0 defeat at Llanfairpwll two weeks ago, Anglesey League basement side Llandeg travelled to Pentraeth Reserves for their last away fixture of the season knowing they could get something if they played the same way again.

The first half saw Pentraeth on top and eventually finding a way in through birthday boy Lewis Owen (21) who netted on 25 minutes.

The visitors thought they had equalised soon after when the lively Dêf Parry was played in and scored – but it was ruled out for offside.

Pentraeth then rattled the bar just before half time but the score remained 1-0 and the game was in the balance.

Llandegfan stuck to a 4-1-4-1 formation in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts.

Dêf Parry levelled with an absolute screamer. He rifled a 30 yard free-kick into the top corner, giving the Pentraeth keeper no chance.

Not long after, Parry struck again. Man of the Match Anthony Williams-Crofts completed a wonderful run down the wing by whipping the ball into the striker to finish from close range.

From there on out, it was mostly a case of trying to keep Pentraeth at bay – and Llandeg did just that.

The match-defining moment came in the dying seconds when away goalkeeper Duane Hunt, making his first start in two months after returning from injury, made a brilliant save to seal the three points.

It was nervy, it was exciting but most of all it was a win at Bryniau Fields – some two and a half years or so after Llandegfan’s last league win came at the same venue.
