Welsh Cup fourth round: Flint paired with Colwyn Bay, Caernarfon to visit giant-killers Ammanford

Caernarfon Town have landed a fascinating away tie at giant-killers Ammanford in the last 16 of the FAW Welsh Cup.

The South Walians, who have former Swansea City and Wrexham star Lee Trundle in their ranks, thrashed Cymru Premier hosts Carmarthen Town 4-0 at the weekend.

A difficult away test is assured for Cymru Premier outfit Caernarfon, who coasted to a 4-0 triumph at Goytre United in round three.

The most appealing tie for North Wales will be the all-Cymru North tussle between Flint Town United and Colwyn Bay at Cae-y-Castell.

Flint caused a sensation by knocking out Cymru Premier visitors Bala on Saturday, while the Bay, back in the competition after a long exile due to playing in the English pyramid, also eliminated higher-level opponents in Airbus.

Cefn Druids will host the lowest-ranked team left in the competition Pontardawe Town, who were thrashed 4-0 by the Ancients’ neighbours Cefn Albion in last season’s FAW Trophy final.

Rhyl have a tricky trip to Cymru Premier Newtown, although the Lilywhites have enjoyed past success against the Robins in the national knockout.

Connah’s Quay Nomads will be pleased with a home tie against Afan Lido, while Prestatyn Town must embark on a long journey to Swansea University.

If Porthmadog win their replayed tie at Penybont, they will be home to Cardiff Met in the last 16.

Ties will be played in the new year.
