Take a ‘Lwch’ at us now – Amlwch Town Ladies are flying at present

Most people who saw Amlwch Town Ladies’ 20-0 scoreline yesterday might have thought it was the biggest win in the team’s history.

Not so. The Anglesey side has recorded a previous 20-0 victory – and it was only last season.

Really great photo of Amlwch Town Ladies in their Poppy kits before playing Penrhyn Bay last season. Cerys Gadd and Lexi Crawley scored 10 goals between them in this game but neither feature in the photo. I don’t know why and (men don’t question these things) I will never ask. I’d imagine one of them was taking the photo?

Dressed proudly in their Poppy kits, Amlwch rattled up a 20-0 win on November 4, 2018, over Penrhyn Bay at Lon Bach.

Scorers that day were: Cerys Gadd 6, Lexi Crawley 4, Charley Smith 2, Charlotte Webb, Sara Furlong, Shannon Thomas, Chloe Taylor, Sophie Baker, Paige Williams, Ashleigh Jones and Ffion Owen.

Just over a year on, only three of that group scored yesterday – Shannon Thomas, Paige Williams and Ffion Owen.

The main two providers 13 months ago, Cerys and Lexi, were unavailable for yesterday’s match.

Amlwch have made a great start to the current season, leading North Wales League Division Two by seven points with six wins and a draw, having netted 65 goals already!

Town’s only defeat has come away to Division One leaders and joint reigning champions Llanfair United 3-1 in the Welsh Cup.

Landmarks from yesterday’s game v Holywell…..

Very few can have made the impact Catrin Evans, 16, has at such a young age in North Wales women’s football. Picture: Gethin Jones, ATFC
  • Meinir Thomas notched her first career hat-trick (she netted four in all)
  • Catrin Evans chalked up the first four-goal haul of her senior career (which only started in January 2019). She has scored 28 goals in 26 senior matches (both Amlwch and Bethel combined)
  • Shannon Thomas scored the first brace of her career
