Gwynedd and Anglesey Leagues: Big away wins for Hotspur Reserves, Llangoed and Caergybi

Gwynedd League

With the clash of the top two Menai Bridge Tigers v Trearddur Bay Bulls called off, and Bangor 1876’s game at Glantraeth also postponed, the Gwynedd League lost some of its edge on Saturday.

And there was further blunting of the blade when Bro Goronwy’s game at Ogwen Tigers was abandoned after 41 minutes due to treacherous conditions underfoot. Third-place Bro led 1-0 at the time.

Nefyn United were also off the schedule due to being involved in FAW Trophy action against Denbigh Town.

However, the four matches which did go ahead produced a pleasing 26 goals.

Llangoed were 9-1 away winners at Bethesda Athletic, Wayne Thomas (4), Guy Hughes (3), Patrick Mee and Joseph Doohan coming up trumps for the visitors, Shaun Morris the sole home scorer.

Luke Baum and Glyn Tomos found the net as Talysarn Celts squeezed past Waunfawr 2-1, Dylan Hughes having given the Beganifs an early lead.

Mark Godfrey (3), Rob Rhys, Darren Parry and Gethin Owen did the damage as Llanystumdwy swept aside Llannerchymedd 6-1, Tomos Jones for the visitors from Anglesey.

Caergybi rattled up an impressive 5-1 success at Bontnewydd, James Ryan (2), Ian Williams, Nathan Lewis and Glenn North banking the points for Dale Moffat’s team, Cai Penny Williams replying.

Anglesey League

Mountain Rangers maintained their unbeaten record in the Anglesey League with a thrilling 3-2 home win over Pentraeth Reserves.

Having lost to the same opponents in the Benllech Car Boot Trophy seven days earlier, Alex Philp’s side were out to put the record straight.

And they got there, thanks to goals from Declyn Williams (2) and Simon Kay, although the visitors pushed them all the way, only losing to a last-minute decider. Peter Crowe and Jack Halton were Pentraeth’s marksmen.

Holyhead Hotspur Reserves were resounding 9-0 away winners at Llandegfan. Craig Moore (3), Phil Jones (2), Casey Gregg (2), Chris Corrie and Sion Rowlands combined to deliver the caning.

Adam Thomas and Owain Davies grabbed the goals which sealed Llanfairpwll a 2-1 win over CPD Y Fali, Mike Williams replying.

Arriva Bangor defeated Holyhead Town Reserves 4-1, Scott Hughes, Kieran Davies, Jack Hughes and Mark Williams the net-hitters for the Busmen, Ryan Hughes for the Harbourmen.
