North teams go for glory in FAW Women’s Welsh Cup this weekend

This Sunday, October 20, brings the first round of the FAW Women’s Welsh Cup.

Six northern ties are on the roster, each team battling for a place in the last 16 of the national knockout.

Bethel v Airbus UK

Katie Midwinter scored twice on her second debut for Bethel

These two sides have already met once this season in a North Wales League Division One tussle three weeks ago, home team Bethel recording a narrow 3-2 victory.
Sunday’s cup encounter could be another close battle.

Connah’s Quay Nomads v Pwllheli

Seven days after thrashing Pwllheli 9-1 in a North Wales League Division Two game, Nomads are up against the same opponents on Sunday in the Welsh Cup.
Sara Hilton’s side have already progressed through a preliminary round where they defeated Llanberis 6-2.

Corwen v Llandudno

A repeat of last season’s round one clash which Llandudno won convincingly 13-0 at Maesdu Park.
This time sees Corwen operating from a division higher in the North Wales League and enjoying home advantage, but it is still a massive task for Alaw Davies-Smith’s team against Welsh Premier opposition.

Denbigh Town v Northop Hall

Rosie Hughes could be a key player up front for Denbigh

With a 9-0 home win over Hall already achieved in the league this season, Denbigh will be strong favourites entering Sunday’s Welsh Cup tie at Myddleton College.

Llanfair United v Amlwch Town

Very interesting tie between the Division One and Division Two leaders in the North Wales League.
Llanfair have won four out of four in Division One so far and are a free-scoring side, but Amlwch are unbeaten in Division Two and possess a number of proven goal getters in the likes of Lexi Crawley, Ffion Owen, Catrin Evans and Cerys Gadd.
As for Llanfair, Gemma Jones, Sophie Cook, Sarah Ellis and Mary Griffiths are all dangerous in attack.

Rhyl v Wrexham

Rhyl have made an excellent start to the season, their results to date including a 4-0 home beating of Wrexham in Division One.
The Dragons have struggled badly so far and will begin Sunday’s cup match as second favourites.
