North Wales Women’s League: Amlwch and Nomads draw, wins for Pwllheli, Rangers, Llanfair, Bethel and Airbus

North Wales League Division One

Wrexham 0 Airbus 6

Airbus celebrated their first win of the campaign in stunning fashion with a six-goal drubbing of a promoted Wrexham outfit which suffered a third straight loss.

Tegan Hewitt led the way for the Wingmakers with a double, while the in-form Becky Lees maintained her awesome start to the season with another goal to make it six in total this term.

Jade Scott, Alice O’Shaughnessy and Sian Smith made up the visitors’ half-dozen.

Bethel 7 Corwen 2

Ffion Williams plundered a hat-trick for the home side in a dominant performance against visitors Corwen.

Last season’s joint top-scorer for the team with 20 goals proved she is up for another productive campaign with a terrific treble.

Katie Midwinter marked her return to Bethel with two goals. Before leaving to join Bethesda Athletic last season, she had also netted a pair on her farewell appearance against Northop Hall.

Hannah Jones and a Gwenno Gibbard-Bolton penalty made up the seven, Ffion Evans and a 25-yard stunner from Alaw Davies-Smith providing Corwen with some cheer.

Rhyl 1 Llanfair United 2

Tracey Godsell’s injury-time penalty save from Natalie Harrison denied Rhyl a point at Ffordd Derwen.

Mary Griffiths struck first for Llanfair in the 20th minute with a sharp left-foot finish and only the heroics of home keeper Lauren Jones denied the visitors further goals before half time.

In the second half Rhyl were much better and equalised when a Sade Benjamin corner was flicked into her own net by Mary Bailey.

Two minutes later Gemma Jones lashed Llanfair back in front, but the hosts hit the bar before in the 93rd minute Harrison earned a penalty which she took herself, but Godsell was able to save quite comfortably.

Division Two

Amlwch Town 3 Connah’s Quay Nomads 3

The expected match of the day in the league lived up to its billing as Nomads led 2-0, trailed 3-2 and then grabbed a last-gasp equaliser.

The Deesiders took the lead just before the break through Tonicha Dickens, then close to the hour Jasmin Dutton made it two from a free kick.

Amlwch pulled one back through top-scorer Lexi Crawley and on 75 minutes it was 2-2 when the Quay goalkeeper punched into her own net from a corner.

And it looked like the turnaround was complete when Catrin Evans slotted home for Town following a free kick.

But in added time Rachael Nattrass, who signed from Llandudno last week, forced an equaliser to make it honours even at the final whistle.

Penrhyn Bay 3 Mountain Rangers 5

Danielle Barnfield notched a hat-trick for Rangers in a somewhat feisty encounter at Colwyn Bay.

Penrhyn took the lead through Ffion Evans, but the visitors, who had won their opening two matches 14-1 and 9-0, edged ahead through goals from Lisa Thomas and Barnfield before half time.

Barnfield struck again early in the second half, then completed her treble on 51 before Thomas made it 5-1 on the hour.

Bay rallied with two goals from Molly Watkinson and Mia Rawling, but it was not enough.

Pwllheli 4 NFA 3

Those who have complained about the high margins of victories in the league so far this season will have been more satisfied today.

As well as a 3-3 draw and 5-3 win, Division Two featured a 4-3 win for Pwllheli in a thriller against Rhyl-based visitors NFA.

Magi Hughes (2), Stacey Sansome and Amy Roberts shared the home tally, Emily Jones and Rachel Lloyd (2) ensuring the away side went close to a point.

Welsh Premier Women’s League

Llandudno 0 Swansea City 3

Stacey John-Davis and Katy Hosford ensured the Swans built a winning platform by scoring in the first half at Maesdu Park.

Davis struck again on 66 minutes to make sure of the three points.

Llandudno created some chances but their finishing let them down. Sioned Bohana was player of the match for the hosts.
