Another two Nomads stars on their way – how many more possible departures from North Wales football are coming?

Two more stars of Connah’s Quay Nomads women’s back-to-back title successes have left the club.

Highly-rated defender Megan Andrews and forward Alisha Whitehead-Hughes have both moved on.

And similarly to Polly Wild-McGregor and Elana Harley, who both left the club recently, Andrews and Whitehead-Hughes are considering playing their football in the English system.

Andrews, 21, has played for Nomads since 2022-23 and has been a vital player in the club’s Adran North title wins over the past two seasons. She was named in the Adran North Team of the Season for 2025-26.

The defender has made 71 first team appearances for Nomads, scoring five goals, and also played for the under-19s a number of times.

As well as being an Adran North title winner twice, she lifted the NEWFA Challenge Cup on two occasions.

Whitehead-Hughes signed for Nomads from CPD Henllan JFC Girls in January 2024, having been a prolific goalscorer for the Vale of Clwyd village club.

She scored on her first team Nomads debut in a 14-0 victory over Llanfair United in a Genero Adran North clash on February 25, 2024. She went on to score nine goals in 38 first team games.

Whitehead-Hughes netted in the 5-0 win against Airbus in the 2023-24 NEWFA Challenge Cup final after coming on as a second-half substitute.

While crowned Adran North winners for the past two seasons, Nomads have been denied promotion to the Tier 1 Adran Premier on each occasion after losing in a play-off against the Adran South champions.

The whole issue of there being a play-off at all, thus denying one league champion promotion to the level above every season, has come under heavy criticism.

No doubt, after winning successive Tier 2 titles, many of the Nomads squad will feel aggrieved that automatic promotion does not operate because of FAW policy.

This could well be a factor in four key players in the Nomads squad now moving on and seeking fulfillment in the English pyramid.

Maybe the FAW should take note.
