Women’s football: Wins for Rhyl, Northop Hall, Pwllheli, Nomads and Caernarfon

North Wales Women’s League Division One

Northop Hall 1 Wrexham 0

Eleanor Thomas provided the late goal which ensured Northop Hall completed a league double over Wrexham.

In the closing minutes, Lydia Ward sent a lovely pass through the Dragons defence and Thomas slotted past the keeper into the bottom corner.

It was perhaps a little tough on Wrexham, who could easily have picked up their first point of the season on chances they created.

Hall were indebted to goalkeeper Bethan Thomas for some fabulous saves in this fiercely competitive encounter.

Rhyl 2 Airbus 0

Rhyl returned to winning ways and made it four victories in six league games at the expense of Airbus.

Now level on points with second-place Bethel, the Lilywhites clinched a season’s double over the Wingmakers thanks to goals from Catrin Davies and Ceri Purvis.

Denbigh Town P Corwen P

This match was postponed on Friday as Corwen could not raise a team.

North Wales Women’s League Division Two

Pwllheli 2 Mountain Rangers 0

Two late goals from Nia Wyn Jones clinched the points for Pwllheli in a cracking clash against the Rangers.

Nia has been a Pwll player for some years, but took a break after experiencing the joys of motherhood, and this was her first game back in a while.

Until the home side broke the deadlock this game could have gone either way.

Sioned Bohana stood out the back for Rangers and Lowri Hughes shone for Pwllheli. Hayley Rees Williams also pulled off some fantastic saves in the home goal.

Unfortunately, Rangers lost their inspirational captain Elena Julio through a recurrence of a shoulder injury, as well as the versatile Jess Lane.

Pwll are now up to fifth in the table.

Caernarfon Town 7 Holywell Town 2

The Canaries celebrated their first league win since October as they put bottom side Holywell to the sword.

Georgia Bain (2), Llinos Hughes (2), Becca Elliott, Lisa Jones and Iona Williams shared the home goals, Ruby McGilloway with both for the Wellwomen.

Llanberis 0 Connah’s Quay Nomads 5

Nomads ended up comfortable winners, but the game could have been closer only for second half injuries suffered by key Darans players Sioned Phillips and Ffion Bee.

Candice Nellist (2), debutant Louisha Doran, Tonicha Dickens and Rachael Nattrass shared the Deesiders’ goals.

Nomads remain unbeaten in the league and sit third in the table.
