North East Wales Veterans League: Lex and Hawarden into final

Lex XI will meet Hawarden Rangers in the final of this season’s North East Wales FA Veterans Cup.

In Sunday’s semi finals, Lex thrashed Shotton Steel 7-2, while Hawarden got past FC Nomads Vets 5-3.

Simon Richards was a true star for Lex Vets with a hat-trick, while other goals were provided by Barry Torrance, Warren Duckett, Rene Bruce and Wyn Jones. Lee Cousins notched both for Shotton Vets.

Alan Dawson grabbed a treble for Hawarden, Matty Phillips and Ant Williams adding singles, while Kevin Leech (2) and Mark Reed replied for Nomads.

There were also plenty of goals in North East Wales League Division One on Sunday.

Denbigh Wanderers Vets led the way in a 6-3 beating of Brickfield Rangers Vets.

Gavin Evans (3), David Clayton, Russ Vaughan and Rich Jones made up the six home goals, David Murray, Steve Watkin and Jamie Jennings responding for Bricky.

Ian Dixon’s double ensured Mynydd Isa Spartans Vets pipped Penmaenmawr Phoenix Vets 2-1, Rob Benjamin hitting back for the visitors.

Unbeaten Veterans Premier Division leaders Caerwys Vets moved 11 points clear at the summit with an 8-0 away bashing of Point of Ayr Vets.

Now undefeated in 10 outings – nine wins and a draw – Chris Geary (2), Ant Weardon (2), Steve Hughes, Dean Hughes, Terry Jones and Rich Hughes supplied the goals for Caerwys, who led 5-0 at the break.
