Welsh Alliance & Welsh National: Magic Matty Griffiths nets five for Kinmel Bay

Matty Griffiths was a five-goal hero for Kinmel Bay in their 7-1 thrashing of Amlwch Town in Division Two.

Bay welcomed the long-awaited return of Kieran Ellis, who did not appear on the scoresheet but played an important role and created problems all afternoon for the Anglesey visitors.

Matty Griffiths opened the scoring two minutes into the game with a perfectly curled free kick into the top right-hand corner.

Amlwch equalised 10 minutes later through Joshua Griffiths, but their joy was short-lived.

Bay’s Matty Griffiths wasted no time putting his side back in front with a low left-footed drive into the far corner.

Matthew Marsh-Evans scored from the spot before Anthony Jones did well to find Griffiths at the far post, the front man side-footing in for his hat-trick to make it 4-1 to the sky blues at the interval.

Seven minutes into the second half Griffiths, with a bullet of a header, made it five.

Kinmel’s desire, grit and determination was second to none, especially Hayden Kivell, who was immense at the back and did not put a foot wrong.

A sixth arrived on 56 minutes when Griffiths again was placed perfectly to beat the keeper with precision.

To finish the rout, the pace of Steven Flanagan left the Amlwch defence in his wake, breaking through the back-line to calmly beat the keeper one-on-one.

Gaerwen bounced back from two straight defeats in ruthless fashion with a 9-3 success at Llandudno Junction.

Iwan Williams (2), Shaun Monument (2) and Chris Bennett (2) all shone for the Anglesey side, Tim Cavanagh, Connor Gordon and Darren Lewthwaite adding one each.

Iwan Owen bagged four goals in Y Felinheli’s 6-1 drubbing of Llandudno Amateurs, Carwyn Dafydd and Rhodri Dafydd also on the mark.

Pentraeth celebrated their first win of the campaign – a brilliant 3-2 outcome at Gwalchmai.

Rees Roberts notched a hat-trick for the visitors, whose 16-year-old debutant keeper Morgan Goodman, the latest in a line of quality youngsters to step up from Tynygongl Youth, was outstanding.

Marc Evans and Corey Sinnott were the Gwalchmai scorers.

Gareth Jones-Evans (2) and Martyn Smith led Pwllheli to a 3-2 win over Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

In the Reserves Division, Colwyn Bay hammered Kinmel Bay 9-3. Frankie Arkwright led the way with four second half goals for the Seagulls, Rhys Yates scored three and Hari Gwilym two for the hosts, who led 3-1 at half-time.

Kurt Hellfeld (2) and Ben Bolton guided Llanberis to a 3-2 win against Denbigh Town at Ffordd Padarn.

Hayden Tidswell bagged a hat-trick as Penmaenmawr Phoenix edged past Pwllheli 3-2 in the Lock Stock Fireworks Challenge Cup first round, where St Asaph City enjoyed a 3-1 result at Llanrwst United. Charlie Lyons, Carl Murray and Tom Kingsland struck for Saints, Barry Jones replying.

Premier Division leaders Rhostyllen moved five points clear at the summit with a convincing 4-1 thrashing of Llanuwchllyn at Vicarage Fields.

Tom Douglas (3) and Steven Jones shared the goals for the home side, who have recorded seven wins in eight starts.

This was the only game played in the Premier on Saturday, with most clubs involved in the Welsh Cup second qualifying round.

In Division One, Llangollen Town nudged up to second after they narrowly saw off Overton Recreation 2-1 at Tower Fields, Sam Giles and Kristian Jones with the all-important home goals.
