Cymru North: Rhyl pipped at post, Flint held at Tudno, Gresford’s Eyre hits four

Rhyl were left devastated after fighting back from 3-1 down to draw level at Guilsfield, only to lose to a late winner in a 4-3 defeat, reports James Curran.

Guils got off to a flyer when they took the lead after 42 seconds through Adam Davies. After the Lilywhites gave away possession a recovery back pass to Rory Crowther saw the goalkeeper lose control of the ball, leaving Davies with the simple task of scoring from close range.

Sam Litchfield put the hosts 2-0 up on 11 minutes, after an initial shot had come back off the post.

Two-down at the break, the visitors brought themselves renewed hope three minutes into the second half when a Leo Riley shot from the edge of the box found the back of the net.

However, the travelling support barely had time to finish celebrating before defensive frailties let them down again. The defence backed off as Guilsfield attacked down the Rhyl right, a low ball across the box evaded Crowther and Steve Blenkinsop pounced to make it 3-1.

Max Peate was at the far post to head home and bring Rhyl back into the game in the 62nd minute.

The Lilywhites were now on top, and in the 74th minute new signing from Cefn Druids, Arek Piskorski, grabbed a debut goal from a corner.

Once again, though, Rhyl threw away hopes of getting a result just three minutes later when Guilsfield’s Chris Cathrall was allowed to run into the box unchallenged to knock in the winner.

Jake Eyre was a four-goal hero as Gresford Athletic triumphed 6-2 at Corwen.

Aaron Edwards and Kieron Evans also struck for the Colliers, Scott Evans with both for the hosts.

Ifan Burrel and Steff Gittins provided the goals as Penrhyncoch defeated Colwyn Bay 2-0 at Cae Baker.

Flint Town United dropped to third after having to be content with a 1-1 split at Llandudno.

Aaron Pomeyie handed the Seasiders a seventh-minute lead, but the prolific Mark Cadwallader levelled on 46.

Corrig McGonigle (2) and Liam Morris provided the goals in Conwy Borough’s 3-1 success at Llanfair United, Paul Griffiths responding.

Bottom side Porthmadog crashed again, going down 4-2 at Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, who are now up to second.

Khyam Wyton, Iwan Matthews (2) and Gary Meredith shared the home tally, Jay Gibbs and Mel McGinness with two stunners for Port.

Will Owen, Llyr Morris and Ilan Hughes (pen) secured Ruthin Town a 3-1 verdict over Buckley Town, Connor Littler for the visitors.
