Cymru North: Prestatyn stretch lead to 10 points with Bay win, Rhyl lose after being three-up

Prestatyn Town moved 10 points clear at the Cymru North peak with a 2-1 victory at Colwyn Bay on New Year’s Day.

A bumper crowd of 912 gathered at Llanelian Road, where the Seasiders took a second-minute lead when a Robbie Hughes corner was headed in at the back post by Michael Parker.

Town had produced the better start and they made it 2-0 on 23 minutes when Jack Higgins tapped in from a Jordan Davies cross.

Bay had an opportunity when Joe Chaplin created space on the edge of the area but blasted his shot over the bar.

Colwyn created some pressure towards the end of the half, but come the break it remained 2-0.

Hughes drilled across the face of goal for the visitors before Bay found themselves really up against it on 61 minutes when Sion Edwards was red-carded for a studs-up tackle.

The table-toppers were denied a third on 68 minutes when Andy Coughlin produced a fine block from Danny Davies.

Bay survived another couple of scares before the 10-men halved the deficit in the 81st minute, Alex Downes firing in a first-time shot from a Chaplin corner.

Rhyl led 3-0 at half time against Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, but the Lilywhites ended up 5-3 losers.

Cai Owen (2) and Tom Creamer looked to have put the hosts in total command, but a second half hat-trick from Matty Williams, plus goals from Gary Meredith-Thompson and Iwan Matthews, completed a remarkable turnaround in favour of the Powys visitors.

Hot on the heels of turning a 4-1 deficit versus Colwyn Bay into a 4-4 draw, fighting back from two-down to earn a 2-2 split with Flint Town United and winning 2-1 at Llangefni Town with a last-gasp decider, the Tangerines trailed 3-1 at home to Llandudno today but recovered to share a 3-3 result.

Bryan Roberts, Lee Thomas and Alfons Fosu-Mensah put Tudno 3-1 to the good, Corrig McGonigle replying for the hosts.

In the 73rd minute, McGonigle struck again to make it 23 league goals for the campaign and Liam Morris bagged the equaliser on 89.

Jake Jones, Steffan Jones and Will Hughes were on the mark for Llangefni Town in a 3-0 triumph at Buckley Town.

It was also 3-0 for Corwen are home to Llanfair United, Tom Mann, Dale Davies and Owen Cordiner finding the net.

Guilsfield outscored Penrhyncoch 3-1, Callum Bromley and Adam Davies (2) putting the home team three-up before Ifan Burrell replied. All the goals came in the first half at Clos Mytton.
