North Wales Recreational League tournament

Women’s recreational football is really catching on – and you’ll see why this weekend.

On Sunday, September 22, Kinmel Bay Leisure Centre pitch will host a round-robin tournament for the North Wales Recreational Football League.

The nine teams entered are: Kinmel Bay, Connah’s Quay Nomads, DragonHearts, Queen Bees, Llanfairfechan Town, Llysfaen, Mochdre, Henllan and Denbigh Town.

Those taking part are asked to be at the venue for 12.30 pm for a 1 pm start. Each team will play eight games, all lasting 12 minutes each. Estimated finish time will be 4 pm.

Cardiff City FC Women v Llandudno

Having lost 7-0 at home to Cardiff in the League Cup last weekend, this is possibly not the best time for Llandudno to be facing the same opponents seven days later.

Then again you can look at it another way. Tudno have a chance of instant revenge, or at least an opportunity to put in a better performance which could wipe out some of the memories of the seven-goal thrashing.

It’s a long old journey for Sarah Colville’s side, but they do have three points already on the board having won 1-0 at Briton Ferry Llansawel on the opening day.

NEWFA Cup round one – Bethel v NFA (1.30 pm)

Bethel’s first match of the season is a home clash with Division Two newcomers NFA in the NEWFA Cup.

Last season saw the Caernarfon area side reach two cup finals and finish joint champions of North Wales Division One, so they will be looking to build on those successes this term.

Bethel have lost a few players in the summer, but also gained some too, and are again prepared to give youngsters a chance to flourish.

NFA lost their first game heavily to a very strong Amlwch Town, but bounced back last weekend with a 7-1 success at a developing Caernarfon Town.

The Rhyl-based visitors have a very capable front line and some experience throughout, but their less tuned players will need time to bed in.

NEWFA Cup round one – Penrhyn Bay v Airbus (1.30 pm at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay)

Penrhyn Bay suffered numerous heavy defeats last season, but this time around are benefiting from some added experience, as well as members of the 2018-19 U16 FAW Welsh Cup winning team.

And Ian Morgan’s side showed plenty of promise in their first Division Two game against Pwllheli, where they led 2-0 only to be pipped 3-2 right at the end.

Division One Airbus will have skipper Abby Williams back and are out to register their first win, having drawn 2-2 with Northop Hall and lost 3-2 to Rhyl in their opening two league encounters.
