Sunday, September 15 – North Wales women’s football previews

Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup round one (2 pm)
Llandudno v Cardiff City FC Women

Llandudno will look to build on their opening day WPWL victory at Briton Ferry last weekend when they welcome Cardiff City to Maesdu Park in the League Cup on Sunday.
Manager Sarah Colville reports that midfielders Anna Jones and Sofie Owen are back in the squad having missed the 1-0 win at Old Road last Sunday.
Tudno have never recorded a victory over Cardiff, so this would be the ideal time to break the jinx in a cup competition now in its seventh season.

FAW Women’s Cup round one
Llanberis v Connah’s Quay Nomads

Connah’s Quay Nomads ladies

Newly-formed teams Llanberis and Nomads will experience their first taste of Welsh Cup action on Sunday.
The Darans won their first-ever league game 5-3 against Caernarfon Town last weekend, while Nomads recorded a 12-0 success at Holywell Town.
Both sides play in North Wales League Division Two.

North Wales Women’s League Division One (1 pm)
Airbus v Rhyl

Abby Williams is absent for Airbus this weekend

This one has the makings of a really close contest.
Rhyl’s 18-1 win at a depleted Bethesda last weekend will have given them confidence, even though the result is now void with Pesda having resigned from the league.
Airbus, meanwhile, will be sharper for a cracking 2-2 derby draw with Northop Hall in their first game. Their skipper Abby Williams is absent, but forward/wing-back Tegan Hewitt returns after missing last weekend’s match through taking her C Licence coaching examination.

North Wales Women’s League Division One (1 pm)
Denbigh Town v Llanfair United

Both teams are coming off the back of opening day victories.
Denbigh edged a good 2-1 verdict at Corwen, while joint-champions and double cup holders Llanfair romped to a 12-1 triumph at promoted Wrexham.
The Powys girls have a really strong side this season, with so much goal threat from the likes of Gemma Jones and Mary Griffiths.
Denbigh have strengthened in the summer and made changes to the coaching set-up. When all is settled, they should prove a real force in the division.

North Wales Women’s League Division Two (1 pm)
Caernarfon Town v NFA

A young Caernarfon squad continue their development with a home test against Rhyl-based NFA.
The Cofis lost 5-3 at Llanberis last weekend, while NFA were thrashed 9-0 by a very strong Amlwch outfit.
There is plenty of potential in the NFA team, and this will flourish the more games they play. They have a decent chance of a result at Caernarfon if their ‘big guns’ fire.

North Wales Women’s League Division Two (1 pm)
Mountain Rangers v Holywell Town

It’s an exciting time for Rangers as they look to unleash their new-look side on the league.
With plenty of experience in the ranks, the Rhosgadfan side should be among the front runners in Division Two this term.
Katie Bowe, Sara Williams, Elena Julio, Alishia Donohue and Charlotte Webb are just some of the well-known names to join this summer.
Holywell are in the learning stage, but despite losing 12-0 in their first game to Connah’s Quay Nomads, they never stopped trying from first minute to last and they will make the home side work hard for everything on Sunday.

North Wales Women’s League Division Two (1 pm)
Pwllheli v Amlwch Town

Amlwch oozed class in their 9-0 win at NFA last weekend.
New signings Ffion Owen, who scored a hat-trick, Ceri Slaney and Catrin Evans, who netted twice, slotted in perfectly.
Established names like Paige Williams, Cerys Gadd and Lexi Crawley, who also grabbed a treble, produced the usual quality.
Pwllheli won their opener 3-2 at Penrhyn Bay, having been 2-0 down, so there’s plenty of fighting spirit in the squad as well as proven goal-getting talent with the likes of Lois Thomas, who struck twice in that game.
Good match-up this, potentially the clash of the day on the women’s scene.
