Debutants shine as Amlwch deliver six of the best at Mountain Rangers

Amlwch Town ladies were in ruthless pre-season form as they rattled up a 6-1 win at Mountain Rangers on Wednesday night.

Having strengthened considerably in the summer with additions from the Ynys Mon women’s team which made the Inter-Island Games Final, Mo Eynon and Charlotte B Webb’s side already look like potential contenders for the North Wales Women’s League Division Two title.

And they proved it with a clinical display of finishing at Rhosgadfan.

Fellow Division Two side Mountain Rangers, who themselves are bedding in several new recruits and have suffered a couple of injury setbacks already this summer, will on this evidence perhaps need a longer settling-in period than their Anglesey opponents.

The visitors took a first-half lead through last season’s top-scorer Lexi Crawley, also leading overall markswoman in the Inter-Island Games tournament.

Sixteen-year-old sensation Catrin Evans, who joined Amlwch from Bethel in June and scored in the Island Games final, added a second for Town on her debut.

The ever-dependable Cerys Gadd made it 3-0 from the penalty spot before another new face, ex-Caernarfon Town midfielder Ffion Owen, added a fourth.

And Owen struck again before Katie Bowe pulled one back for the home side.

Amlwch had the last word, however, Ashleigh Jones making it 6-1.

The 2019-20 season starts on Sunday and Amlwch begin with a trip to Rhyl-based newcomers NFA, while Mountain Rangers are down for a free date due to the uneven number of clubs in Division Two (9).
