Wonder women: Some of the best signings in North Wales ladies football 2019-20

Time to take a look back over the first seven months of the 2019-20 North Wales women’s football season and pick out some of the best signings.

Ffion Owen (Caernarfon Town to Amlwch Town)

With 19 goals in just 12 games as an attacking midfielder since joining Amlwch last summer, Ffion Owen has been a sensation for the all-blues.
After being part of the Ynys Môn women’s squad which reached the final of the Inter-Island Games last June, Amlwch wasted no time in snapping up former Caernarfon Town ace Ffion.
She scored hat-tricks in each of her first two matches, and hit four in a 9-2 win over Llanberis.

Katie Bowe (Caernarfon Town to Mountain Rangers)

There was excitement aplenty in the Lamas camp when former Welsh Premier star Katie Bowe joined Rangers in pre-season.
And the Rhosgadfan club were even happier when the ex-Llandudno and Caernarfon Town ace scored SEVEN times on her debut.
Unfortunately, since that September day, Rangers have played just six games, mainly down to an awful winter ruining pitches.
Nonetheless, Katie has notched 11 goals for her new team in just a handful of matches, so has to be regarded as a great signing.

Candice Nellist (Rhyl to Connah’s Quay Nomads)

Former Tranmere Rovers and Rhyl youngster has been a brilliant capture for the Nomads, with 16 goals to her credit already this season for the Welsh Cup semi-finalists.

Emily Jones (Rhyl to NFA)

With a proven track record of scoring goals in the Welsh Premier – including Rhyl’s first-ever hat-trick at that level – Emily has been a real shining light in NFA’s debut season in the North Wales Women’s League.
Her 10 goals have helped guide the newly-formed side up to second in Division Two. She is playing with real expression and skill.

Charley Smith (TNS to Amlwch Town)

An Amlwch player last season and a proud member of the Supplementary Cup winning squad, defender Charley switched to TNS in the summer.
Things didn’t quite work out for the player, who doubles up her football life as a referee and lineswoman, and she was welcomed back to Amlwch with open arms in November.
In a rock-solid defence, Charley has slotted back in perfectly in a team which has the league title in their sights.

Shannon Jade Jones (Bethesda to Bethel)

After last season’s Division Two champions Bethesda folded after just one game of the current campaign, Shannon was snapped up by Division One reigning joint champions Bethel.
She has performed brilliantly for the maroons in the midfield, her hard work creating a lot of chances for the forwards.

Ffion Mair Roberts (Bethesda to Llanberis)

One of the best strikers on view this season.
Her aggressive forward play has brought her eight goals for Llanberis, making her top scorer for the team.
One of her best achievements was scoring a hat-trick against Mountain Rangers.
A fitness instructor who plays like one – never stops working. Great team player.

Catrin Evans (Bethel to Amlwch Town)

She stepped down a division in the summer after an amazing few months where she netted 18 goals in 12 games for Bethel and scored for Ynys Môn in the Inter-Island Games final, but her move to Amlwch has proved a good one.
The 17-year-old’s fantastic attacking wing play has brought her 14 goals in a Town team which looks to be running away with the Division Two title.

Sioned Bohana (Llandudno to Mountain Rangers)

Despite Llandudno’s struggles this season – which led to them resigning from the Welsh Premier League – Sioned had been an outstanding performer in defence for the Seasiders.
So for a North Wales League Division Two team to capture a player of that quality has to rank as one of the signings of the season.
Although she has only played two games for the Lamas, she appeared on the scoresheet in a 3-3 draw with Llanberis.

Caitlin Hadaway (to Holywell)

Speak to any team which has played Holywell this season and most will say Caitlin was a player who made an impression.
Her hard-working attitude to the game has been an inspiration. She has also played in the Recreational League, where she is joint top-scorer. The fact she turned down a move to TNS proves the loyalty of this teenage star.
