North East Wales League: Comeback keeper Matty stands out for Bellevue, Victoria reign at the summit

North East Wales League

There were plenty of positives to emerge from Bellevue’s latest defeat in the Top Mark Uniforms North East Wales League.

After some heavy hammerings to start the season, Delwyn Derrick’s team of triers produced a much improved display in a 4-0 home loss to Penyffordd Lions.

One of the main reasons for that was the excellent performance of Matty Geddes in goal, playing his first full 90 minutes since suffering a multiple leg break last season. Gaddes pulled off some great stops, including a couple of brave one-on-ones.

Also outstanding was Adrian Ashley, who made his senior debut at centre-back.

Penyffordd led 3-0 at the break, but managed just one more goal in the second half. Drew Davies (3) and Matt Holmes were their scorers.

League leaders Brymbo Victoria defeated Borras Park Albion 4-2, George Phoenix with a hat-trick and Paul Messham adding a single for the hosts, Daniel McGinnis (pen) and Jack Brimfield netting for the visitors.

Acton claimed their first win of the campaign, recording a 6-0 triumph at Bradley Park.

Nick Dunne, Steve Powell, Alex Godfrey and Mike Pugh struck in the first half, Tommy Hallam and Ethan Callaghan after the break.

FC Nomads Vets and Caerwys Vets drew three-apiece.
