After enduring their first-ever league loss to Bala Town on Friday night, it was easy to predict the next team to face The New Saints might suffer.
And so it proved as the record 13-time champions dished out a club biggest league away win of 10-1 at Aberystwyth!!
Saints’ highest-ever Welsh Premier victory of 10-0 v Rhyl at Park Hall in 2016-17 was not quite eclipsed but they bettered their 9-1 away caning of Bangor City in 2013/14.
Former Doncaster Rovers winger Billy Whitehouse bagged a treble for Scott Ruscoe’s side, Greg Draper adding a double, while there were singles for Jon Routledge, Dean Ebbe, Adrian Cieslewicz, Kurtis Byrne and debutant Adam Hughes, Marc Williams with Aber’s sole reply.
Bala Town continued their good start to the campaign with a 2-2 draw at Barry Town United, the Lakesiders coming from behind twice to earn a point courtesy of goals from Lassana Mendes and Stu Jones.
Caernarfon Town’s Darren Thomas gave his team an early 1-0 lead at The Oval, but the Canaries had to settle for a 1-1 outcome after Ryan Kershaw levelled for Cefn Druids in the second half.
Town relentlessly pushed for the winner, but the Ancients went closest to pinching it when substitute Remy Howarth headed against the crossbar.
Connah’s Quay Nomads were held 1-1 at home by Carmarthen Town.
Liam Thomas edged the Old Gold ahead on 52 minutes, but Callum Morris delivered the equaliser on 70.
Airbus UK Broughton went down 1-0 at Cardiff Met, while Newtown and Penybont shared a 1-1 draw, meaning teams split the points in four of the six Bank Holiday Monday fixtures.
