Newly-named Prestatyn Town Ladies are shaping up impressively in the build up to the 2019-20 North Wales football season.

Last season’s Prestatyn FC have now merged with Town, and new coaching and backroom staff have come on board.

Although officially part of Prestatyn Town FC, the ladies will play home matches at Meliden for the foreseeable future as the Bastion Gardens pitch has been relaid and the club has been advised against overuse in its first year.

Prestatyn Town Ladies’ squad is building nicely, with players offering Welsh Premier League experience in the ranks.

Left-sided dead-ball specialist Tonicha Jade Dickens, who had been part of Rhyl FC since it joined the WPWL, is a new face at Prestatyn this season, along with Niomi Taylor, a proven goal-getter with Kinmel Bay in recent times.

Elisha Sandiford and Jade Scott, regular scorers for Prestatyn FC last season, stay on to be part of the new Town side.

Another welcome addition is Azaria Warburton, a key player who operates just in front of the defence, who was part of the treble-winning Prestatyn Girls side of 2014-15 which landed the Welsh Cup.

Rhian Edwards, Grace Bamber and Saskia Wynne-Thomas are other names in the Town squad.

Prestatyn Town Ladies train on Bastion Gardens every Tuesday between 6.30 and 8pm.

Manager David Edwards said he would welcome a few more new players.

“We’ve got some good players coming on board with good experience of playing at Welsh Prem level,” he added. “If we can just get a couple more I think we will have a good first season in which to build on in the coming years.”
