Cricket – Winter’s summer special leads Bangor to resounding win over Pont

Result: Bangor won by 8 wickets

David Winter’s unbeaten century guided Bangor to a comfortable eight-wicket win which put the Citizens 11 points clear at the Premier summit.
Pontblyddyn won the toss and elected to bat, chalking up a decent total of 206-6 off 50 overs.
Ben Mason led the charge with 66, while opening partner Alistair Roberts added 32, Jonny Wells being the hosts’ most successful bowler with 2-31, Nadeem Rehman grabbing 2-44.
Winter and Idrees Ijaz put on 62 for the opening wicket in Bangor’s reply before the latter was dismissed for 24.
Rehman joined Winter at 82-2 and the pair put on an unbeaten stand of 125 as the home side eased to 207-2 off 38.4 overs.
Winter’s 100 not out exactly came off 108 balls and included 14 fours and a six, while Rehman ended undefeated on 61. Points: 14-1.

Menai Bridge (4) 216-10 Mochdre (11) 217-9
Result: Mochdre won by one wicket

The match of the day in the Premier saw in-form Mochdre rise to second in the table with a thrilling one-wicket triumph at the champions.
Bridge called the coin correctly and opted for first knock, Luke Jones hitting 93 and Gethin Long 48 as they were bowled out for 216.
Russ Boswell snapped up 3-26 for the visitors, while Gareth Goodson and Kyle Brown both claimed 3-54.
Mochdre were then indebted to a wagging tail as they made it to 217-9, James French (52) and Stewart Williams (42) the leading contributors, but a number of other batsmen chipping in to help the cause.
Last-wicket pair Boswell (15 no) and Brown (5 no) saw the travellers home to a final-ball success.
Sean O’Callaghan (3-39) and Liam Bibby (3-56) helped the Anglesey side go so close. Points: 4-11.

Llandudno (13) 112-10 Denbigh (2) 48-10
Result: Llandudno won by 64 runs

Denbigh lost for just the second time this season, but crashed in dramatic fashion at The Oval.
Tudno must have feared the worst after they were sent packing for just 112, having chosen to bat first.
Sam Rimmington was the stand-out with 51, while for the visitors skipper Harrison Jones scooped 3-7, Andy Clarke 3-28, Jack Griffiths 2-26 and Sam Lewis 2-33.
In response, Denbigh plummeted to 6-4 and were eventually dismissed for a paltry 48, Sam Lewis the only double-figure merchant with 20, Matthew Jones with 4-10, captain Jack Rimmington 3-10 off nine and Jamie Grimshaw 2-14 for Llandudno, who took the points 13-2.

Brymbo (3) 127-9 Northop (12) 128-5
Result: Northop won by five wickets

Thomas Hughes was the key batsman with 69 as his Northop side triumphed by five wickets at Brymbo.
The Steelmen set a modest 127-9, Gareth Boys hitting 45 and Shashika Meistry 32 no, James Birch with an outstanding 4-24 off 12 overs for the visitors, Mark Poynton 3-35 and Andy Poynton 2-17.
Opener Hughes then led the way as Northop made it to 128-5 off 46 overs, Boys 3-36 for the hosts. Points: 3-12.

Gresford (15) 229-9 Connah’s Quay (0) 91-10
Result: Gresford won by 138 runs

Ross Willets returned stunning figures of 5-15 off 12 overs in Gresford’s maximum points beating of basement boys Quay.
The hosts set 229-9 off 50 overs, Chris Ellwood 51, skipper Daniel Williams 48, Willets 42 and Gareth Bell 39, Scott Adams 3-45 and Martin Burger 3-46 for the Deesiders.
Quay were all back in the hutch for 91, Willets’ bowling head and shoulders above the rest.

Pwllheli (11) 205-10 St Asaph (4) 195-9
Result: Pwllheli won by 10 runs

Home captain Morgan Murray-Williams claimed 6-42 as his Pwllheli team pipped the Saints by just 10 runs at Parc Bodegroes.
Tristan Coetzee cracked 80 off just 70 balls in Pwll’s effort of 205 all out from 48.3 overs, Jason Foulkes 3-46, Danny Ryan 3-53 and Duncan Midgley 2-38 for the travellers.
Despite an early loss in reply, a second-wicket stand of 139 between Midgley and Nathanael Scott (47) put Asaph in a strong position.
Midgley looked odds-on for a ton as he reached 98 off just 86 deliveries, smashing four sixes and seven fours, but when he was caught and bowled by Coetzee an away win looked much less likely.
Ten-man Saints were eventually 195 all out, Murray-Williams the star bowler and Coetzee claiming a vital 2-48. Points: 11-4.
