Ynys Môn women are through to the final of the Huws Gray Inter-Island Games football tournament after beating Jersey 1-0 at Lon Bach, Amlwch.

Lexi Crawley scored the decider early in the second half, making it five goals in three matches for the Amlwch Town hotshot.

An exciting first half with chances at either end finished goal-less, but the on-fire Crawley’s fabulous strike soon after the restart gave Anglesey something to build on.

And the home team held on for a fantastic victory which surpasses anything Ynys Môn have ever achieved before in women’s football.

In this just their fifth Island Games tournament, Môn’s females had won just one of their previous 14 matches in the competition.

However, they kicked off the 2019 Games with a 3-1 triumph over Western Isles, Crawley netting a hat-trick.

Although the North Wales side were beaten 3-2 in their second match by Hitra, Crawley and Jordanne Greenough on target, they still topped Group A on goal difference with all three teams recording a single victory.

Jersey presented the tough hurdle expected, but there was no stopping Ynys Môn advancing to Friday’s final at Holyhead Hotspur, where the strong-looking Isle of Man await.

In this evening’s other semi, the Manx mermaids saw off Hitra 5-1, goals coming from Becky Corkish, Ellie Gawne, Jade Burden, Casey Halsall and Sarah Wignall after Kristin Jorgenson had given the Norwegians the lead.

Western Isles clinched fifth place with an impressive 5-0 thrashing of Gibraltar.

Ynys Môn men will seek to emulate the ladies tomorrow when they face Shetland Islands in a semi-final at Llangefni. Heavyweights Isle of Man and Guernsey clash in the other semi.
