Anglesey/Ynys Môn football greats past and present – No13 Craig Moore

When it comes to scoring goals on a consistent basis Craig Moore is right up there with Anglesey’s best.

The 27-year-old is enjoying his most prolific season to date, having put away 49 goals so far for multi-trophy chasing Anglesey League side Bryngwran Bulls.

But for an injury picked up towards the end of last year which kept him out a few weeks, Moore’s total could well be nearer the 60-mark.

Born on August 18, 1991, Craig has also played for Trearddur Bay United, Glantraeth, Bodedern Athletic and Holyhead Town.

He has bagged goals regularly over the past few seasons in the Welsh Alliance and Gwynedd Leagues, as well as the Anglesey.

His career goals tally is around the 250-mark, having been top-scorer for Trearddur in both 2013/14 and 2014/15 (31 and 29 goals respectively).

The following campaign he was a member of the Bay squad which landed the Welsh Alliance Division One title at the first attempt.

Craig has also won the Gwynedd League title and Bob Owen Memorial Shield with Bodedern, as well as the Elias Cup with Holyhead Town.

His best goals return in a single game is six while his most productive season up to now is the current one – 49 and counting….

Asked about the best aspects of his game and the drawbacks, he said: “Strengths are my pace and movement and my weakness is probably being quite short, sometimes it’s easy for defenders to get round me and nick the ball away.”

Craig has also represented the Anglesey League in a match against the Caernarfon League.

The striker comes from good footballing stock as his dad is the much-celebrated Nigel Moore, a highly-rated frontman from the island who represented Bangor City, Llanfairpwll, Glantraeth, Bodedern Athletic, Holyhead Town and Holyhead Hotspur, was twice Gwynedd League Player of the Season in the 1990s and played all the way up to Welsh Premier level.

Craig said: “When I was growing up my dad was playing for Holyhead Hotspur so I used to go to watch him a lot and he got me playing football from the age of about 5.

“He still gives me advice every now and again which hopefully I can pass onto my little brothers.”
