Weightlifting: Silver medal joy in men’s competition for youngster Cian

Sixteen-year-old Cian Green only started weightlifting to get stronger for rugby – but now he’s a double Welsh record holder and silver medalist.
Cian, of Nantlle, near Penygroes, took up lifting in September 2018 to build himself up for the oval ball game, but he enjoyed it so much that he started to compete.
His latest competition was the weekend Welsh International Open at Canolfan Brailsford, Bangor, where he was up against men and claimed a fantastic silver medal overall.
Cian weighs 71.8 kg at the moment and is lifting in the 73 kg category.

In the Snatch, he lifted 90 kg weight in a section where he now holds the U17’s Welsh record.
Also in the Clean and Jerk, he raised 120 kg in a class where he also set a new record at Wales Under-17 level.
His combined lifts ensured he finished second overall to scoop the silver.
