Rhuddlan Town reach Junior Cup last eight but are far from at their best

NWCFA JUNIOR CHALLENGE CUP SECOND ROUND – OCTOBER 17, 2026

Rhuddlan Town 2 (Lambert 3, Liam Booker 76)

Not the best of displays from Rhuddlan but they did enough to advance to the Junior Cup quarter-finals where a home meeting with Bethesda Rovers awaits next month.

Town took a third-minute lead when Riley Booker played a short corner to himself, delivered a superb cross and Connor Lambert headed home – not the first time this set piece has paid off this season.

In the sixth minute the hosts missed a penalty, Liam Booker firing wide from a spot-kick he earned himself.

From here, the rest of the half was dire from a Rhuddlan point of view and it needed two good saves from home keeper Harry Lodge to keep it at 1-0.

After a grilling and some tough words at half time, Rhuddlan started to play some football, repeating their form of the opening 10 minutes – controlled passing around the back and playing through the channels.

A handful of chances went astray before the security of a second home goal finally arrived on 76 minutes.

Top-scorer Liam Booker received the ball in the box, lofted it into the air and scored with a stunning volley – his 21st goal of the season.

Manager Azzie Jones said: “Despite getting the win we certainly weren’t at our best today. Leading 1-0 at half time but we looked well off the standards expected from ourselves.

“Second half we improved, controlled the game more, improved our possession and created more chances, however overall the performance should and could have been a lot better. We move on to the next round and look forward to welcoming Bethesda Rovers in early November to Pengwern who are currently in good form themselves”.
