North Wales Women’s Recreational Challenge Cup: Wins for Valkyries, Blaenau and Mochdre

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S RECREATIONAL CHALLENGE CUP – MONDAY, OCTOBER 12
Llandudno Valkyries 3 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 0
Goals from Skarleth Fonseca, Jennifer Davies and Azita Ahari saw the Valkyries to victory in Monday’s cup clash at Go Goodwins Stadium.
Valkyries commented after the match: “Three goals, a clean sheet and a brilliant team performance.
“Every player played their part, showing determination, teamwork and real Valkyries spirit.”
Penmaenmawr Phoenix also shared their views on the game.
“It wasn’t quite our night as we battled hard but just couldn’t find a way through a determined Llandudno Valkyries defence.
“Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take away.
“The Phoenix ladies showed some lovely passages of link-up play, tried out new ideas and created plenty of opportunities. The woodwork certainly wasn’t on our side, with FIVE efforts hitting the post! On another night, it could have been a very different story.”
Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs 6 Prestatyn Athletic Dragonhearts 5
Alaw Hughes scored the winner as Blaenau came out on top in an 11-goal thriller.
Hughes, Gemma Williams and captain Gemma Diamond all scored twice for the home side, Jade Davies and Caitlin Latham with two apiece and Julie Green with a single for Dragonhearts, who certainly lived up to their name.
Mochdre Lionesses 6 Prestatyn Town Dragons 0
Beth Smith, Leanne Williams, Rachel Faragher, Caitlin Howell-Williams and Lindsay Bowes featured on the scoresheet in the home side’s victory.
Here is how the Lionesses described the game: “The game was played in great spirits from both teams, with a lovely atmosphere and plenty of respect shown throughout.
“Our ladies put in a brilliant shift, worked hard for each other and showed some fantastic teamwork from start to finish.”
