Novira Cymru Premier: Great wins for Caernarfon, Nomads and Airbus

NOVIRA CYMRU PREMIER – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9

Haverfordwest County 1 Caernarfon Town 2
Sion Bradley has scored some spectacular goals for Caernarfon over the seasons but his winner at Haverfordwest on Friday was surely as good as anything he has produced in a Town shirt.
Bradley had only been on the field as a substitute for five minutes when he latched onto a blocked shot on the edge of the area and powered in a fearsome missile with 85 on the clock.
The wonder goal clinched three vital points for Richard Davies’ side which edged them into fourth spot in the Cymru Premier,
Town took a 12th minute lead when following a swift counter-attack, Adrian Cieslewicz’s shot was handled in the box by Jacob Owen.
Joint league top-scorer Zack Clarke calmly netted from the spot for his 12th goal of the campaign.
Canaries keeper Hari Thomas produced a superb stop to deny Rhys Abbruzzese before Phil Mooney netted at the back post for the visitors, but was adjudged offside.
Early in the second half, Caernarfon’s Osian Evans brilliantly tricked his way into the area, rounded keeper Ifan Knott, but Kyle McCarthy somehow was able to block the striker’s effort on the goalline.
Clarke was then thwarted by Knott at his near post from an angled strike.
Knott next foiled Noah Edwards, but Haver were having their moments in attack too, the Cofis defence producing some heroic blocks.
County went down to 10 men on 78 when Lewis Rees was shown a straight red for something apparently said to the official. At the same time, referee Aaron Wyn Jones also showed red to home manager Tony Pennock.
Despite all this, the hosts kept pressing and from a McCarthy cross in the 83rd minute, Ben Ahmun headed in the equaliser.
It remains as ever true that a team is often at its most vulnerable when they have just scored – and so was the case for Haverfordwest.
Soon after the levelling goal, Caernarfon threatened. Ben Nash’s shot was charged down, but there was Bradley to blast in his sixth of the season.
County also had Jacob Owen dismissed for a second yellow after the full-time whistle.
Briton Ferry Llansawel 1 Connah’s Quay Nomads 2
Nomads recovered from being a goal down at half time to record their fifth league win on the bounce.
Ferry had a great chance to take a sixth-minute lead when Abdi Sharif fouled Corey Hurford in the area, but Thomas Walters’ very poorly-struck penalty rolled wide of the post.
Walters made amends in the 33rd minute when he took advantage of slipshod Nomads defending to squeeze the ball home after Tom Price had lofted it forward.
The visitors levelled on 58 minutes when Max Woodcock crossed from the left and although Jordan Hodkin’s diving header carried minimal power it somehow crept in past keeper Will Fuller.
Hodkin had an opportunity to make it 2-1 when he raced into the box but slammed his shot against the bar.
However, Hodkin turned provider on 63 when his delivery from the right ran nicely into the path of sub Woodcock, who drilled smartly into the right-hand corner to seal the points for John Disney’s second-place Deesiders.
Llandudno 1 Airbus UK Broughton 4

George Peers is joint leading scorer in the Cymru Premier with 12 goals after his hat-trick sank Llandudno.
The Seasiders struck first on eight minutes when Liam Higgins broke to the right byline and pulled the ball back for Ben Maher to drive into the left-hand corner for his third goal in four matches.
Airbus made it all-square on 22 minutes when Peers’ penalty just squeezed past keeper Joel Torrance. The spot-kick was awarded for a push in the box seconds after an earlier similar appeal was turned down.
The second Wingmakers goal after 25 was something special. Jordan Evans hit an absolute diamond free kick from 25 yards which gave Torrance no hope.
A minute from the break, Kaiden Cooke pass into the box released Peers who sold a brilliant dummy to the keeper and defender before rolling the ball into the net.
At first the goal was disallowed for offside, but following a VAR Light review it was rightly given.
Peers completed his treble on 62 minutes with a back post header from a Cooke cross.
To complete a miserable evening for Tudno, Iwan Cartwright was sent off on 85 minutes for a second yellow.
This was Llandudno’s fourth league loss in a row and they will be relieved that the fine start they made to the campaign is keeping them away from the relegation positions for now.
