Davies double helps ensure Flint end Adran Trophy group stage with 100% record

GENERO ADRAN TROPHY GROUP 1
CPD Bangor City 1876 2 (Evans 7, E Jones 72)
Flint Town United 3 (Smith 2, Davies 45, 61)
Kelsey Davies marked her debut for Flint in typical fashion with a two-goal performance.
Davies, a two-time Adran North title winner with previous club Llandudno, made crucial contributions to the Silkwomen’s victory at Bangor City Stadium.
A third successive win meant Becca Eagles’ side finished top of Group 1.
Flint fielded a much-changed side, with some key players unavailable and new faces given game time.
Bangor put up a fine show themselves, pushing till the end in a determined bid to earn a point or better.
Flint started really well. Debutant Davies made a great run down the left and pulled the ball back to Bethan Davies, whose cross into the box looked certain to find Ruby Hastings, but Amy Mano handled right on the edge of the area.
Poppy Smith stepped up for the free kick and struck it with her left foot, firing straight through the four-player wall and into the bottom-right corner to give the Silkies the lead.
It wasn’t long before Bangor threatened at the other end, but their attack ran through for a goal kick. From the restart, Abbie Bellis-Hollway’s goal kick was intercepted by Menna Evans, who hit a powerful effort and found the net – her third goal of the season.
Just before half time, the visitors regained the lead. Grace Bamber, playing at right back, played the ball forward but it fell to Bangor’s Emma Roberts. Her pass back to the goalkeeper was intercepted by the extremely quick Kelsey Davies who calmly slotted the ball into the empty net.
Half-time: Bangor 1-2 Flint
Early in the second half, Bellis-Hollway pulled off some brilliant saves following a free kick to keep her side ahead.
Following a home free kick, Flint made it 3-1 just past the hour after catching Bangor short at the back with only one player near the halfway line. Neve Richards, also making her debut and playing her first game in women’s football, played the ball into Davies.
The flying winger pinged a pass out to Hastings on the right wing before making a run towards the edge of the box. Chased by Bangor’s number 10, Holly Owen-Roberts, Hastings’ initial effort was blocked, but the ball was squared back to Davies, who took a touch and finished confidently into the net.
Bangor pulled one back to make it 3-2 when Ellie Jones received the ball on the right from Emma Roberts, took it in her stride and fired across goal. Bellis-Hollway got a hand to it, but there was no stopping the powerful strike.
It was an end to end game throughout and everyone had to give 100% from start to finish.
Winning captain and player of the match Ruby McGilloway said: “Fair play to Bangor, who caused problems with some extremely quick counter-attacks. We know next week will be another tough test as we face Bangor away again in the league.”
