FAW Amateur Trophy round two – October 3, 2026

Report: Mason Houldsworth

Prestatyn Town progressed to the next round of the Amateur Trophy in emphatic fashion on Saturday, producing another dominant performance to secure a 5-0 victory over Rhos Aelwyd at Bastion Gardens.
Town looked lively from the opening whistle and created a number of opportunities early on. The best of the early chances fell to Calyn Spencer, who was played through into the box, but his effort sailed comfortably over the target.
Prestatyn continued to dominate possession and moved the ball confidently across the pitch, although the visitors showed plenty of determination and made it clear they were not going to simply roll over.
Just before the half-hour mark, Zebb Edwards went close from a free kick, forcing Daniel Roberts into a good save to keep Aelwyd level.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 36th minute- and in spectacular fashion.

Leon Bennett picked up possession in a deep position on the right and looked to send a cross into the box. The ball carried all the way towards goal, catching everyone by surprise as it sailed past Roberts and into the far corner from more than 40 yards.
A cross turned into an extraordinary goal, and the young defender had his first goal for Town.
Just over five minutes later, Town doubled their advantage.
Some excellent battling from Alex Jones inside the box allowed the captain to keep possession and find Macauley Taylor, who made no mistake with the finish to put Prestatyn firmly in control.
That was how it remained at the break, with Town taking a deserved two-goal advantage into half-time.
Prestatyn picked up where they left off after the restart and were handed the perfect opportunity to make it three less than five minutes into the second half.
Connor Davies was brought down inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Hilditch stepped up, but his penalty was well saved by Roberts.
The miss did little to discourage Town, however, and Hilditch would not have to wait long to get on the scoresheet.
Moments later, Connor Davies delivered the ball into the box. It took an awkward bounce, but Hilditch was in exactly the right place at the right time, with the ball going in off him to make it 3-0.
And Town struck again almost immediately.
Straight from the restart, Prestatyn won possession back and Alex Jones once again turned provider, slipping Hilditch through on goal. The forward kept his composure to finish and complete a quick-fire double.

Tom Hilditch added two more goals to his collection

With the game firmly in Town’s control, Kershaw, Worthington and White were introduced as Prestatyn looked to maintain the intensity and quality of the performance.
Rob Hughes and Callum Hardy were also brought on a few minutes later, with Town continuing to control proceedings.
Rhos Aelwyd continued to compete and showed plenty of spirit despite the scoreline, but Prestatyn remained in command, keeping possession well and continuing to threaten.
Hughes and Kershaw both went close, forcing Roberts into two further good saves as Town searched for a fifth.
The fifth eventually arrived- and it was another excellent piece of play.
Hilditch showed brilliant footwork inside the box to create space before delivering a dangerous cross just in front of the penalty spot.
Waiting for it was captain Alex Jones, who rose highest to head home and complete the scoring.
Alex Reid was called into action late on and produced a good save, but Town remained comfortable through the closing stages.
The final whistle confirmed another impressive victory for Prestatyn Town, who move into the next round of the Amateur Trophy in superb fashion.
