MATCH OF THE DAY – Halkyn United 4 CPD Caerwys 2

A second hat-trick of the season for Phil Nash ensured Halkyn took their first 3 points in the NEWFA Trophy
Nash also bagged three goals in United’s unfortunate Welsh Cup defeat on penalties to Prestatyn Sports at the start of the campaign, but on thid occasion his triple strike brought jpy.
Halkyn found themselves 3-0 up at half time after Nash found the net twice and Bran Jones made it three on the stroke of the interval.
The first goal was a threaded ball in behind from Sam Fryer which Nash ran onto and finished with great composure. For the second, Nash got on the end of a Matt Jenkins cross and with the third Fryer picked out Jones in space who found the bottom corner.
Caerwys came out battling second half and pulled one back through Jack Smallman who came off the bench to net a brace.
Nash made it 4-1 when drawing a foul from Caerwys goalkeeper and coolly converting the penalty to seal his hat trick.
Smallman added his second for Caerwys after a lapse in concentration from Halkyn.
Halkyn missed numerous chances to extend their lead late on, but it finished 4-2 – a well earned 3 points for the hosts.
