North East Wales Football League round-up – Sat, August 15

NEWFA REPORTS – AUGUST 15
NEWFA TROPHY – LEAGUE PHASE
CPD Cei Connah 3 Mostyn 5

Morgan Evans was a four-goal hero for a Mostyn side which secured their first competitive victory as a new club with an entertaining 5-3 cup win over Cei Connah at the Holywell 4G pitch.
Mostyn started brightly and created a couple of good opportunities, but it was the home side who struck first on six minutes.
A mistake on the edge of the Mostyn penalty area was punished with a clean finish from Joshua Rimmer to give Cei Connah a 1–0 lead.
The visitors responded well, changing their approach and looking to exploit the space in behind. Luke Mantle managed to break through the Cei Connah defence, and after a clever leave from Morgan Evans, Jack Gilmore stepped up to make it 1-1.
The teams then exchanged goals, Evans on the mark with his first for Mostyn.
With half-time approaching, Mostyn edged in front. A ball over the top released Evans, who made no mistake with the opportunity.
Half-time: Cei Connah 2–3 Mostyn
The second half began with the hosts putting Mostyn under sustained pressure and keeping the visitors pinned inside their own half. Despite seeing plenty of the ball, Cei Connah struggled to find a way through a stubborn and determined Mostyn defence.
Then, against the run of play, Mostyn struck again.
Another long ball freed Evans, who raced clear and finished to extend the advantage to 4–2 with his hat-trick goal.
Cei Connah refused to go away and on 64 minutes sub Oliver Rathbone-Jones cut the arrears to 4-3.
Mostyn adjusted their shape and looked to protect the lead, but there was still time for one final blow.
Once again a ball in behind enabled Evans through and he calmly finished to seal the win.
Halkyn United 1 CPD Gronant 1

Honours even at Brynford.
Halkyn found themselves ahead on 23 minutes through a Brandon Jones strike, assisted by Connor Bucknall.
The hosts then had a tight Kieran Durkin goal disallowed for offside.
Gronant posed a constant threat from set pieces which prevailed after 34 minutes when a corner caused carnage and ended up as the equaliser scored by Aidan Bell.
The visitors had another corner 5 minutes later from which the ball found the back of the net but was disallowed for a foul on keeper Scott Craig.
Halkyn made changes in the second half and created lots of chances which were wasted. Another disallowed goal from Joe Jones after 60 minutes left United chasing 3 points going into the final stages of the game.
The hosts had a clear cut chance to win it in the dying moments, but it wasn’t to be and the points were shared.
