MATCH OF THE DAY: Trearddur Bay rattle up double figures

Bay maintained their goal-packed start to the season by hitting double-figures against newly-promoted Broughton.

The result gave the Beach Boys early leadership of Ardal North West.

It did not take long for Trearddur to assert their authority as a 4th minute free kick floated in by Liam Morris was punched out by Lewis Thornton in the Broughton goal only as far as Jay Gibbs who volleyed home.

It was a sign of things to come as Bay doubled their lead in the 10th minute, a low corner delivered by Morris squeezed in by Osian Hughes at the near post.

Broughton were handed an opportunity in the 39th minute when the assistant referee spotted a handball in the Trearddur box and the referee pointed to the spot. Although Dan Williams made a great save to his left to stop Lewis Jones’ penalty, the Broughton number 3 followed up to convert at the second attempt.

It only took Trearddur Bay 24 seconds from the restart to restore their two-goal advantage, Osian Hughes adjudged to be onside despite Broughton protests, keeping his cool to slot home. Two goals in two minutes just before half time from Callum Parry had Bay going into the break 5-1 up.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first as Joe Todd, who had replaced Sean McCaffery, recorded his first goal of the season from another Morris assist. Morris himself claimed his well deserved goal three minutes later, his left foot shot from the edge of the box proving too powerful for the Broughton keeper.

Three minutes later, it was 8-1, Parry completing his hat-trick with a powerful finish in the bottom corner after a neat layoff from Todd.

James Rutter scored Broughton’s second with half an hour to go, curling a free kick past Williams’ dive in the Bay goal.

However, Osian Hughes made it a treble in the 73rd minute and Bay made it 10-2 with 7 minutes to go, Hughes scoring his 4th of the game from the spot after Thornton had brought down Parry in the box.
