Brymbo’s joint managers for 2026-27 are a pair of illustrious names in North Wales football
A familiar Wrexham-area football duo will be in charge of Brymbo FC this season.
Ricky Evans will join Lee Phelan on the management team at the North East Wales Football League Division Two club.
The pair previously worked together at Brymbo five years ago, when Evans was the manager.
When it comes to playing the game, both Phelan and Evans have to be regarded as Wrexham-area legends.
Having spent most of his playing career in the tier 2 Huws Gray Cymru Alliance turning out for the likes of Buckley Town, Gresford Athletic and gap Queens Park, the 46-year-old Phelan went on to feature in the top flight with Cefn Druids.
He has also served a number of other North East clubs including Mold Alexandra, Llangollen Town and Lex XI, as well as Brymbo.
Renowned for his outstanding skills, this set-piece specialist also won high respect for possessing one of the best array of techniques and passing around.
Phelan also has experience on a managerial level at Lex Vets and TNS Futsal.
In recent years, he has made quite an impression in the sport of futsal playing-wise too, having represented Great Britain and winning the Welsh Cup with Wrexham.
Phelan was head coach at Brymbo last season and is sure to relish the prospect of having Ricky Evans working alongside him again.
In an illustrious playing career, Evans, 49, played for no less than 11 different clubs in the top flight Welsh Premier League and made in excess of 400 appearances in total, netting 76 goals.
He spent three years at Oldham Athletic before embarking on a long journey along the WPL road.
His most settled period was with Total Network Solutions between 1997-98 and 2001-02.
In the WPL, he represented: Welshpool Town, Total Network Solutions, Flint Town United, Bangor City, Aberystwyth Town, Caersws, Rhyl, Cefn Druids, Bala Town, GAP Connah’s Quay and Airbus UK Broughton.
Later career clubs have included Conwy Borough, Brymbo, where he was also manager, and Lex XI.
Last season, he played for both Brymbo and Llay Welfare Vets.
