James Yarwood (Wrexham AAC) was the first finisher at the Llandrillo yn Rhos parkrun on June 13 with his twin baby buggy in just 17 minutes and 26 seconds, but he was made to fight all the way by keen rival Iain Burgess in 17.42, with teenager Eben Jones third in 18.37.

The bright and very breezy conditions failed to deter a large number of visiting athletes and walkers amongst the 435 finishers, with Porth Eirias Runners providing generous support and a take-over of many marshalling and volunteering positions.

Richard Peevor with Barry Dickenson

And Richard Peevor, one of the Rhos parkrun officials, confirmed: “Today has been a special day, a very special day. This was the first day that I ran the parkrun that I set up last year. Porth Eirias Runners take-over at the parkrun

Some of the Porth Eirias Runners and volunteers

It proved to be a spectacular take-over of community spirit at the Llandrillo yn Rhos parkrun on June 13 by Porth Eirias Runners (PER), with this rapidly expanding local club providing a host of supportive members to help volunteer and marshal at this popular weekly event.

Despite a very gusty wind and some 435 runners to organise, plus a light-hearted challenge from a couple of boats from the Bay of Colwyn Sailing Club, it all went very well, and the event organisers posted their comments on Facebook.

Rhos-on-Sea Parkrun volunteers

PER Organiser Catrin Williams stated: “Parkrun takeover. A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, took part, or ran at parkrun this morning. We had an amazing turnout of marshals, from first-time volunteers to experienced helpers, taking on a variety of roles. It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved, from children right through to adults.
“The enthusiasm, support, and energy shown by everyone this morning were incredible and truly made the event special. A special congratulations to Kevin Edge on reaching the remarkable milestone of 200 volunteer credits – an outstanding achievement!

“Without volunteers, parkrun simply wouldn’t happen. I hope today’s event has inspired many of you to volunteer again in the future. From me, as this was my final event for the club, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for all your support. I think it’s fair to say we absolutely smashed it!”

CONWY PARKRUN

NANT Y PANDY

There was a welcome return and a very good turn-out of some 147 parkrunners and walkers at Nant y Pandy following a long absence due to essential bridge and course repairs. And it turned out to be a family affair for the Seguin family with Nicolas
first male finisher in 19.05, and JM15-17 athlete Tamsin (Menai T&F) top female with a new PB in 20.35.

PONT Y BALA

The family link continued at the Pont y Bala parkrun too with Darren Dentith running with his sons Thomas and Samuel. The trio made their course debuts and Darren won his VM50 age cat in 12th place in 22.17, with Thomas finishing 22nd and 2nd SM20 in 23.31, whilst Samuel won his JM15-17 in 31st place in 25.26.
