SHROPSHIRE AND DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE

Division Two
Chirk 1st XI (6) 61-10 Wheaton Aston 1st XI (21) 175-10

Chirk produced a rare abject batting display in Saturday’s defeat at Holyhead Road.
Staffordshire visitors Wheaton Aston won the toss and batted, Andy Nicol top-scoring with 57 in a total of 175 all out.
The away side were 3-2 and 92-5 at different stages, but recovered well enough to set a decent target.
Skipper Nick Flack took 3-23, Nitish Sharma 3-24 and Matt Lawrenson 2-48 for the hosts who then slumped to a dismal 61 all out.
Only Flack (19) and Lawrenson (17) made double figures, Ben Marson starring with 5-18 for second-place Wheaton.

Division Eight
Pontesbury 2nd XI (4) 171-4 Chirk 2nd XI (20) 176-2

Dale Randall was in the runs again for Chirk seconds

A tremendous eight-wicket win for Chirk seconds, who not only thrashed their opponents but also leapfrogged them into top spot.
Put into bat, Pontesbury dipped to 59-4, but an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 112 between Adam Harris (82 not out) and skipper Gaz Downes (46 no) carried them to a solid total.
Zahid Nasiri produced a tremendous effort of 2-12 off eight overs.
Chirk seconds batted excellently to reach 176-2 off 33 overs.
Openers Daniel Graham (57) and Barry Wilding (27) laid good foundations with a stand of 88.
In-form skipper Dale Randall (57 not out) then took over in guiding his team to the victory post, sharing an undefeated third-wicket combination of 65 with Harry Lunt (17 no).
