Article: Ollie Beech

Football fans in Denbighshire have a unique chance to watch some of Europe’s brightest young talents live in Denbigh this week as the UEFA European Under-19 Championship arrives at Central Park.
Several of the players set to feature have already broken into senior football at some of the biggest clubs in world football, with future stars from Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and more heading to Denbigh.
Spain’s squad is packed with talent from the famed academies of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Defender Xavi Espart is among the standout names, having already played for Barcelona in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League this season. The La Masia graduate made his European debut in the last 16 before making his league bow just days later under manager Hansi Flick.
Winger Antonio Cordero has made more than 50 senior appearances for Málaga and is already confirmed to be joining Premier League side Newcastle United this summer.
Real Madrid defender Diego Aguado has already made his senior debut for the Spanish giants, while fellow Madrid prospects Jesús Fortea and Thiago Pitarch are regarded among the club’s brightest young talents.
Barcelona academy graduates Quim Junyent and Jan Virgili are also included, with Virgili having already featured in La Liga for Mallorca.
Germany arrive with a squad equally packed with emerging stars. Captain Francis Onyeka has played senior football for Bayer Leverkusen and spent last season on loan at VfL Bochum, while fellow Leverkusen academy product Montrell Culbreath is regarded as one of Germany’s standout prospects.
Striker Otto Stange has already made senior appearances for Hamburger SV and is considered one of the country’s brightest young forwards.
Denmark’s squad also features a host of players already competing regularly in the Danish Superliga.
The UEFA European Under-19 Championship has a proven track record of showcasing football’s next generation, with former participants including Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Rodri, Jamal Musiala, Antoine Griezmann and Viktor Gyökeres.

For supporters in North Wales, opportunities to watch players from Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and some of Europe’s top leagues on their doorstep are exceptionally rare.
Many of the players taking to the pitch at Central Park are expected to feature in future UEFA Champions League campaigns and FIFA World Cups.

Central Park will host three group-stage fixtures:
● Germany v Denmark – Sunday, 28 June (8pm)
● Denmark v Spain – Wednesday, 1 July (6pm)
● Spain v Germany – Saturday, 4 July (2pm)
A tournament semi-final will also be played in Denbigh on Wednesday, 8 July.

With tickets priced from just £4 for children and £8 for adults when bought in advance, supporters have a chance to see football’s next generation before the rest of the world catches up.
